At this stage, I wouldn't worry too much. Re-timing the engine might solve everything. Good luck!
Good laugh?

My advice would be to pull the timing cover, re-time the engine, and then check compression once timing is verified. Alternatively, you could pull the head and check the valves, but that seems like more work. Besides, if the valves look good you'll need to re-time regardless.
I had the timing pretty far off on my R53 and did not bend any valves. I have heard R50's are less forgiving due to higher compression ratio.
Yea that's the same thing the hobby shop told me after we first had issues, back on Sunday.. He said he knew for sure timing was just off

After reading the whole thread, I'm sure you will not have cracked a piston by turning the engine by hand, regardless of what Dustin at Autoxcooper said.

Never seen a piston crack by hitting the valves, even at race speed when someone money shifted an engine.

Running a cam (no tune) is making the car run a bit leaner....so the extra fuel that is used to make the sound is now getting burnt to make more power!!

You'll have to give it a few days for the adaptations to set in, it may all come back, just depends how the ecu adjusts itself.
