Snapped JCW Belt with 150 miles on Stage 1 kit

So I had a "Stage 1" kit installed on Wednesday and here it is, Friday, driving home from spraying off all this pollen we're having, doing like 50 in 3rd gear, not getting on it, and my belt snapped. The kit consists of:

2% ATI Super Damper crank pulley
15% Craven Supercharger under drive Pulley
JCW Power Pack drive belt
Tensioner stop - Pulley Stop
Brisk LGS Spark Plug set
K&N Cold Air Intake

I have an '06 R53 with 65k miles.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? The shop says this is the first time it's ever happened to them. They've installed a hundred of these kits. So, am I driving it too hard. I've not even had it to a little over 6k rpm. Is there a break in period I don't know about? I've been to MOTD, I know how they're driven, and I have limits much less than those with stock MINIs. I mean, I heard how high they wound it out when they test drove it after the installation. More than I do. Anybody? Give me hope......

yep sounds like an alignment issue. either the belt or a pulley. That will eat through a belt in a hurry. Have them replace the belt and check everything out.

My mechanic installed my pulley on a club "tech day" hosted at his shop. I helped. I held the pulley firmly inward against the end of the shaft using a very large screwdriver as a prybar while he tightened the clamping screws. The first three times, the pulley backed off the shaft just a little, and it kept trying to jump the belt over a groove. Fourth time was the charm, with my assistance....

HTH!

Sounds like the pulley or shaft on supercharger is bad. You should not have to use anything to hold the pulley... Sounds like a bad installation...........

That was someone elses post,

Same hear though, bad belt, pulley alignment or bad tensioner (but if the alignment is good it would have to be pretty bad to jump a belt.

And with those mods there should be no "break in" only ECU adaptation time.

If you're running an ATI 2% reduction balancer and a 15% Craven SC pulley with an actual JCW belt, you've got a belt that is too long. The numbers on the belt are a much better description of what the belt really is rather than a name somebody decided to call it.

My pulley's fine. It just kept trying to mis-align itself until it was forcibly held still while the bolts were tightened. The inner piece kept sliding a smidgen before it grabbed.
