New injectors ???

Hey all

so i currently have a 17% wmw pulley package, custom air intake (similar to Alta) and a custom exhaust (straight pipe). I am currently running on stock injectors.

Would you recommend getting bigger injectors and if so what size ???

btw the car is a 2005 Cooper S with 120000 kilometers on the odo

thx

Biggest questions would be;
How much do you want to spend?
Do you have access to a tuner?

With your mods the 380cc would be fine, no tuning needed, but when you could get tuned you could reap the added benefits. (with your mods & a custom tune the 380's are still good to 7200 rpm or so)

Any thing larger (440's or 550's) will require an immediate tune. Also if your not planning on taking your motor any farther, they're really not needed

i personally dont think ill do any more engine mods except a tune (probably RMW).
So you would suggest the JCW 380 ?

I dont plan on racing the car a lot. Maybe just a couple of track days at thats it

i have the same mods as you, if you plan on having your car tuned i'd go with the 440 injectors. the 380 injectors weren't enough when jan tuned mine.

Yes the JCW 380's, they have a reputation for being pretty tough and will work for a good long time even if running close to or @ 100%.

While the larger 440 or 550's may be preferable IMO as long as you don't push your rpm's much past 7100 the 380's will work fine. Honestly though the one thing to consider if you do decide to go with the larger injectors is the tune, not who does it or anything, just that it "HAS" to be done, NO driving the car w/o it, you would need to have the injectors installed right at the time of the tune & should you ever loose that tune you would have to "immediately" change back to the other injectors until you could get re-tuned. Where with the 380's you could change them when you wanted, get tuned when you wanted, and not have to worry if you accidently lost your tune.

I ran my car with the 380's, JCW pulley & BVH, for about 60,000 miles before I went bigger with no issues at all, as a matter of fact Jan set it up for me, just telling me that he had to set the rev. limit at 7100 because of the injectors.

Racing/tracking a car with a 17% may not br a good combo....but the 17% , no tune with 380's and the 380's are a pretty good match, especially since they will richen the mixture a bit wot...so keep the motor running safely.
My suggestion...carry a spare belt and tennsioner tool, and use a dt tuned tennsioner strap just incaseyou shread a belt....yearly belt changes will help..17% is great imo for a daily driver, but on the track it can make lots of heat, resulting is powerloss, toss/shread belts at high rpms and sometimes see spikes in oil temps if you uave real guages from possible cavitation of the waterpump...it is simply getting run too fast for the viscosity of the coolant...
That having been said...a few days a year....you are fine, but if you get really into it, you might be better served with a 15%.
A tune with 380's and 15% is more of a need imo than 380's and a 17%...either way not ideal, but a tune if you do injectors is a very hood thing. Any bigger than 380's basicly require injectors for the car to run good.
