Alternative for intercooler muffler?

I was poking around the interwebz and came across this finned piece of 2'' pipe that's 9'' long. I don't know how much it could decrease temps, if at all, but even if it doesn't it is a cheaper alternative to others. Thoughts? Is 9'' too long for the pipe?

Sure for $39 throw some silicone couplers on it and go.

Does it need silicone couplers? I thought the intercooler muffler just slid into the hose on either side and is clamped.

Yeah you can use the stock ones but they are not that great.

I've seen this before and it's a cool idea, but it works better in theory then when actually applied. Since there wouldn't be much, if any air flow over the pipe where it's mounted the fins would be pretty much useless. Your better off buying the standard 2" pipe this same company sells for $10.

..... or an 8" long piece of 2" pipe from your local exhaust shop... works perfectly and costs usually less than $5.

Mike, are you talking about the 1' Aluminum Pipe they sell:

I like that it has flared ends so that it won't slip, but will it be too long?

Probably, lol.

I really didn't put a lot of thought into actually using that part as is. Mainly wanted to point that a basic aluminum pipe would do the same thing.

lol yeah, but you get the idea. This is one of the rare occasions where cheap is good.

You can get away with normal pipe, but the rolled bead is defiantly preferable. A bracket to the stock mountig point is also nice especialy for those with an upgraded FMIC with no mounting tabs.

I agree, why pay >$100, or even $35, when it can easily be done for a lot cheaper.

It looks like the only thing off the shelf close to 8" is that finned one. Having not removed mine yet, do you think that the 1' piece can be pushed up into the hoses, or is it just too long?

You can try, but I think it will be to long. There isn't much room on the bottom coupler before it bends to the side. The top may have a little wiggle room, but it bends down and the ends pretty quick too.
