Just came across this Ebay auction for an ECU piggyback I have never heard of, with soem pretty outrageous "dyno proven" performance gains... looks fairly dubious to me, but anyone else seen it?

From my undersatnding, they are affiliated with perfect power, and the "other" cable to tune with a laptop is around 250.00

Honestly, I have no idea, i saw the ebay thing and was curious myself, so i found out about the cabling part, and tried to find who they are affiliated with, but im kinda nervous about buying it to try it and find out, especially after talking to Randy last week, an he is finishing a totally programmable ECU option, that is user set, meaning that you now will have the opportunity to tune your car yourself, to your mods, obviously you will have to know how to do this or you could really screw things up, but for those of us who race and have many custom mods, this is awesome!!!So i think i would rather have a customizable ECU, than a piggyback setup, but that is just my opinion................Could be great thing on ebay, but also could be crap, i just dont know without trying it myself, and im a little leary of it....

This was discussed a couple threads back. It requires cutting into your ECU wiring, and to my knowledge, has not been independetly tested..

Most people do not want to cut their ECU Cabling

The PDX mini club had a tech session at our local dealer this weekend and the US distributor for UNICHIP was there showing their new piggy back controller. This is the one that Randy is working on. It comes with a preset program based on dyno tuning of a car with your same mods and can be custom tuned on a dyno if you want. They supply a cable that plugs into the stock cable, no cutting of wires. It was a very clean installation and they showed dyno results showing increased HP and torque over the EVO tech. Their software adds to the stock signal( change in fuel, advance, etc) and can be unpluged anytime you want to go back to the stock settings (dealer visits??). The price is supposed to be $730 with a preset program and $630 with a blank program that needs to be tweaked on a dyno. I will post pictures of the install tonight. I like the fact that you don't mess with the stock programing and can remove before a dealer visit.

Are we confusing http://www.perfectpowerinc.com/ (a sponsor here) with http://www.perfectpower.com/??? Don't want anyone to get a bad name by accident.

When the WRX came out, a bunch of tuners (Cobb, TurboXS, Vishnu, ...) came out with Unichip based ECU solutions with mixed results. Within about a year, they all dropped the Unichip in favor of either reflashed ECU or stand alone ECU solutions.
