Alta Billet Turbo

Just wondering if anyone has installed this on their vehicle. Any issues? What are the gains you are seeing?

Meh, a solidly built bottom end would help if you're going to start blowing 25+psi of boost LOL

I'd say a few more things than just the bottom end, at least for the N14 lol

Price is the question. Reliability is another. As stated above building more of the motor to help handle the added compression will be a good idea so you are not throwing engine parts all over the road when you finally give it all shes got.

I'm running a billet turbo

It is amazing. Boost comes on ~200 RPM later than stock, once there it is capable of providing more boost than you'll want through 7000 RPM. Chris and I carefully tuned this for the 91 octane available to me. I've got ~ 7000 miles on it and love it.

The spool-up has a louder and noticeably different sound than the stock turbo, you can really hear the turbine intake blades clawing at the air. The turbine whine as it spools is music!

Prior to tuning to keep boost under control this could generate insane boost (21+ psi) anywhere from 1900-7000 rpm. The stage 4 tune for 91 octane we settled on is tame, boost is maintained at long-term survivable levels and never exceeds 20.5 PSI. It drops lower as necessary and prudent.

However, with more octane and wild abandon on the tune and boost I could have amazing power, and soon after engine pieces scattered everywhere.

It's very expensive and slapping that on an MCS with a higher compression ration is asking for engine detonation. If you got the billet turbo, be sure to replace cam, pistons, etc. first.

Over 25 PSI of boost is insane. The JCW's can handle 20-22 because of their lower compression ratios, thus taking some pressure of the pistons.

Two essential quotes to remember about speed

  • Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?
  • The only substitute for cubic inches is cubic money.

Not nessissarily. As long as you have a good tune, you won't have any detonation issues. Also the tune can be made to keep the boost down to lower power so you wouldn't need to build you engine.

24-25 on a JCW actually isn't that crazy. 20-22 is stock on the JCW. We have customers running 24 PSI add day long on their stock turbo and ALTA turbo JCWs and they've been fine.

For guys that are looking to push the ALTA turbo to the max, we will have forged pistons very soon.

O mai lerd forged pistons! If the price isn't redonkulous I might look into this. With the right parts and tune 300 here we come.

Now if we could just get this power to the rear wheels we would be set.
