DDMWorks R56 Race Intake System (RIS)

Has anyone installed the DDMWorks R56 Race Intake System (RIS) on a 2011 Cooper S, thinking about purchasing one and wanted some feedback?

Thanks,

Did you ever get this? I'm thinking about it myself and would love to hear your opinion if so.

DDM works makes great parts. I've personally ran their Street intake system for a while. great sound, using the box that comes with the car provides a nice stable look and feel to the intake.
I have always thought that the Race kit was a bit much. The performance gain from the tunnel and closed box vs cost is a bit extreme your paying a serious premium for a few extra efficiency points. But If your looking for every last bit of performance then its the right choice for you.

No, with the upgrades made to the 2011 engine setup the general consensus to maximize performance is as follows on the Turbo Models;

K&N Filter (or any high flow copy), no box replacement needed since the cool air comes from between the grill and drivers headlight (the rear setup grabs engine heat)

Alta BOV Spring, not really an HP increase but quicker boost hold response and duration.

Hot Side Boost Tube to reduce air volume expansion without silencer and quicker response.

That’s my take on the 2011 and 2012 cars.

I did. I actually just installed it this past weekend. It's a great system and sound good. The throttle response is nice. Now I'm saving up for a tune...

Thanks for the info. Nice to hear about keeping the same airbox. I would like a little more response and maybe a little more noise on acceleration, but I really don't want the loud growl and Pssss from an open filter. The ddm seemed to fit that request. Same with their race exhaust. I like the performance gains, but don't want a lot of noise. A little is ok and understandable, I just don't want to hear it all the time over everything else.

Many of us prefer the DOS CAI:

Either way, open up your hoodscoop with:

I have never seen that setup before, makes sense to me grabbing the cooler air with less tubing and dust from the cabin intake.

Thanks..

I have the DoS as well. It's a well engineered minimalistic design that works great. It's definitely worth considering this intake if you're in the market for one.

That,

I may be mistaken, but it looks like your installation isn't proper. You are supposed to remove the OEM hard vacuum hose and replace it with the supplied hose. Also, it doesn't look like you rotated the line attached to the motor itself...

Just a callout - the instructions were very specific and warned not to install like you did.

The only solid answer I can find is the GTspec strut bar, but they are on back order until early Nov 2012. The M7 strut bar looks like it might be a contender, but I don't know. My DDM RIS is in transit to me right now, along with some other goodies.

i too have researched the DDM race intake with the ram air scoop/box, my only concern is if its designed to be used in heavy rain, ie: drilled or molded to allow a place for water to go before reaching the air filter.

anybody?

Well i was told by their expert that there will be no water issues, unless im driving in 3 feet of water, but then ill have other issues to worry about! He also said that once installed, the scoop is angled upward and, if by chance water defies gravity, they have added drainage wholes as an extra measure of security!

My real question though is, if this system really is needed by the car. I mean surely it helps in getting more cold air but is it really needed?

The instructions are bad when it comes to 2011+ N18.. You can't rotate the vacuum fitting as it's fixed. Putting that soft vacuum line they give you is asking to die. The heat in the engine bay along with vacuum pulling on that tube collapsed it. I lost my brakes.
