After exactly 1 month after delivery of the car, I installed Alta intake and Nology ignition wires last night. Today, I took the car out for a joy ride. I can finally hear the supercharger sucking in the air. Love the sound!!! Music to the ears!!!

Because the weather was very nice today (quite rare here in the Pacific NW), I had the chance to really pushed the car with full throttle. One thing I did noticed was that I had to tightly grab the steering wheel as the car has the tendency not to launch in a straight line. Is this normal?

Could that just be torque steer or maybe the crown of the road? Maybe you should try doing your full throttle launches with your hands on the wheel!

There may be some people getting together for a drive tomorrow - check the NW forum - if I run into you there you're welcome to take a spin in our car to see if it does the same thing. It's not a JCW though...

i was wondering...i remember reading a thread somewhere about randy showing us how to re-align the nology wires so that they don't hang all over the hot surfaces. in fact, i noticed that one of my wires is partially eaten/burned thru the outer layer due to being in contact with the hot metal, actually right where the small jcw badge is. randy said there's a way to rewire it so that all the slack is taken up and therefore, no touching the hot surfaces.

as for the slightly burned nology wire...i can just electrical tape that small section, right?

I think you're right, it's probably torque steering. I thought MINI doesn't have that problem. In any case, I'll keep in mind to keep my hands on the wheel.

I don't think it (my MCS) has much torque steer for the amount of power it's putting down, but it is there. A modded JCW is bound to be worse.

I did spend some times trying to aligned the wires. None of my wires come close to the area you're referring to. I'll check again tomorrow to make sure that they don't come in contact with any hot surface.

Make sure the electrical tape can withstand the heat. A better alternative is to use
heat-resistant sleeves.

I'm not exactly sure, but I think it is left. I'll pay more attention next time to see if it consistantly favors left.

reason I asked is that almost every tuner I've talked to who has something done to the MINI (from something as mild as an intake to full blown race mod) state side, pull left. I'm wondering if it's the driver... (us being on the left and all) or if it's the weight distribution of the car, or some thing with the tranny. ???

I'm thinking to ask the MINI2 guys if they pull right?? maybe??

Are you saying that with the JCW kit you had no torque steer and you had a simple Alta intake and now you have it????

I have noticed some left side pulling when I take off as well - I think I drove the car for 2 days before I started adding parts so I don't really know what a stock MCS feels like.

Can't wait to get my 15% and ECU remapp - I wonder if then I would be able to do those u-turns while changing CDs and talking on my cell
