I can't see why anybody would ever buy one, unless the person was just looking for chang in the exhaust note. It has 3 major connections that are at complete 90 turns, and saying that it "turs" is being nice. its just 2 peices of pipe welded together for they slip to the two mufflers, and the same thing for the tip..How could this ever be seen as a performance exhaust? It just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe you guys can change my mind on this subject...

I think dyno charts will show that they make consistently more HP then stock, and more than other "perfromance" exhausts...

As CooperSpeed said, it makes power.

It also sounds great at WOT, though it is louder than most exhausts at cruising speed and some complain of a drone. The price is pretty decent too.

On my car, it made a small but measurable difference in power, notably above 6,000 rpm.

It's definitely loud, so it isn't for everyone, so I recommend a test-listen before getting one.

I think the cause of the drone is related to the design of the system (duh). When the exhaust flow hits the "racetrack" portion, the tubing acts as an expansion chamber due to the orientation of the pipes, not as a 90 degree bend. With an expansion chamber you're going to have some reflection and therefor some RPM specific resonances....

Just an opinion!

As CooperSpeed said, it makes power.
As Andy posted, however, I'm not sure 5 horses only available after 6200 RPMs counts as "making power". I guess we each have to decide that for ourselves, however.

I love my magnaflow. I put some dense cut pile carpet in my rear hatch and where the rear vents are and its nearly as quiet as the stock exhaust and when i want to hear the exhaust I just roll down the windows.

I think a company like Magnaflow as some knowledge in making an exhaust system that makes power...I don't know but thats just me.

I took the picture of the MINI in the Magnaflow Catalog. That's Randy's MINI.

If Randy said it makes 10 hp (actually I think he says 9 to 15 hp) you can take it to the bank. Anyone who knows Randy or has had any contact with him know this to be true.

I was wrong, just checked Randy's site and he does say 10 HP but that may be at the crank which would work out to be about 8-9 at the wheels.

I think the stronger reason to hesitate buying the Magnaflow is the tendency of the resonator to self-destruct, which a number of people have complained about. It doesn't seem like a quality system designed for the long haul.

People complain of the Magnaflow having too many 90 degree turns? All of the exhausts are like that... to clear the battery bay. Have you seen the stock exhaust? It goes all over the place! One muffler into the other... the Magnaflow makes a huge difference.

Every car is different, just because Randy's car showed a 10 hp gain doesn't mean everyone who installs the system will see the same results (I have a feeling Randy's results are a bit on the out-of-the-ordinary side, not that there's anything wrong with a car that responds better to mods  ).

My only experience with Magnaflow is following tontobird in JerseyGirl's M3. Even in 3rd gear and with the engine revs between 3-5k rpm (that ain't quiet even with stock exhaust on an M3) and with the windows up, I could hear her car LOUD AND CLEAR.

Were it my car: Borla. Top notch stuff.

I'm not an exhaust designer, but the only thing I'd like to see on the Magnaflow would be a Y connection where it splits to the mufflers. I don't know if there'd be any performance gains from this, but it would seem to assist in flow over the T junction.

That said, even taking 50% of the advertised hp gains, you're still looking at a 5 to 7 hp increase. This is still better than most of the other systems available. Tie it in with a good intake and it makes for a noticible improvement in the car.

The resonator problem mentioned did not affect all the systems. It seems it was a batch problem. I've put about 14K on my exhaust with the only problem being, I'm tired of trying to keep the tips clean, thanks to our rich running MINI's.
