Drivetrain I've made up my mind, my next mod will be the shrick cam...
I know that a few people have said that it doesn't make much of a difference, but i think it'll give me exactly what i want, a freely reving engine. I'll post my findings after i've had it in for a while
PS: What do you guys think about the cam?

Welcome to NAM
Which grind did you decide on?
I think it's a great mod if you already have the "Critical" mods out of the way (pulley, ECU, intake, exhuast/header) The Cam is part of the "Secondary" mods, where you're trying to squeeze every last HP out of an already tuned up engine.
I would venture to say a freely-revving engine is more of an oxymoron with the MCS's emissions-oriented drive-by-wire. However key elements to optimize what's there would include an ignition kit and an ECU that has optimised throttle mapping.
Best of luck,
Ryan

Most of us do not have the Schrick cam for about $500 because of it's relatively small gain in power for the price of part and installation. Will you be able to tell the difference? In a nutshell, no. Neither Randy Webb from Webbmotorsports nor Eric Savage at Helix13 has had much positive to say about the Schrick cam as a high yield upgrade for the MINI.
From your sig: you have-
03 MCS, MOMO ****, home brew CAI, modded intake pipe, and H&R sport springs
I'd say if these are your current mods and you want to take the next step then consider first-
a reduction pulley upgrade from 15% to 19%
A 22mm adjustable rear swaybar
A set of lightweight rims and grippy tires
The GIAC ECU or PowerChip ECU upgrade
A Cat-back exhaust like the Milltek or Borla Race, UUC, or Magnaflow.
Good luck.

I ordered the 22mm rear sway bar, i've driven a car with a 19% pulley and it was great, but i don't think i want to go that route, and i havn't seen any gains from any ECU mods so far. So basicly i'll tell it to you a little bit more about me, i like to do things differently, and if i can do so while being succsessful in my quest for cheating the dealer then all is good
Everybody has the pulley, and the dealers know to look for them. So i'm going to stick to mods that i know will not cause any serious problems, and that are not trully visable or noticeable. anyway, i still think i'm going to get the cam, but we'll see

Thanks minihune  Thats the approach i want to take.
jlm, i understand that the cam might not make that much of a difference, but the exhaust valves on the schrick are going to have a cam profile with 270 degrees of duration. This has to allow them to flow more than they did from the factory. The cam that they have been made has been used on a TON of other supercharged engines and the setup always works well. I know they make the same cam for the g60 corrado, and it works great. It make only make 4-6 hp, but thats only because they wanted to retain the stock idle characteristics. I've put a schrick 288 degree cam in my rabbit and it gained (the head was already ported) $18 hp.
I have one question about the cam then. If schrick cam out with a more agressive cam that made say 10-15 hp, would you be willing to buy it, even if the idle was rough with it in? I know i wouldn't, unless i was only racing the car. I believe that there is a reason for everything, and i believe that schrick made this cam so that people wouldn't be hesitant to buy it because of an idle problem. Happy Motoring

check out one the threads (or all) on the supertrap mufflers. much cheaper and lighter than borla etc. i have the homebrewed exaust mod on now for all of 75.00.also on the supertrap threads you can get some dyno charts showing 13+ hp gains, though it might be a bit loud .

1cleancooper,
I like the Schrick cam and think it will add something, even if it is a small gain. And if you can add some of the additions mentioned by others, that should give you a good performance gain. Minihune has good advice as usual.

I understand your feare of losing your warranty but I kept my stock pulley for good reason. If anything major ever happens to my SC or engine. I will be swapping pullies THEN taking it to the dealer.

Then how do you plan on putting the stock pulley back on? pull the SC and have it pressed back on?
