Unusual 550 injectors!

Hi All,

I have an awkward one. I ordered 450cc injectors from a respectable vendor along with some other performance items, and had them all installed.

After start up it ran horribly rich, misfiring as well. After some checking I noticed the Injectors didn't look like the ones off the website.

When asked he alluded he may have sent the 550s by mistake. So upon my research for the 550s to see if they would suit my application I heard the product number was different to the ones I had been given. Having a 117 in it. Instead of my 056s.

After querying this the vendor just said it was fine and that there were two types of 550s used?

Confused I asked to send back so I could get my original 450s and he refused telling me to use these ones.

I highly respect this tuner however I have a nagging feeling about these injectors. He has been very helpful trying to diagnose, just never heard of a second type of 550s?

Can anyone confirm if these could flow 550 ish?

I have been in contact with various injector sellers re the number 0280158056
They say it flows 267cc at 3 bar with a single wide cone.

I know the typical number is 0280158117, anyone heard of these 056s?

My mod list
a 17% pulley, RMW header, RMW street cam, DdM works cai. HFS2 water meth running (50/50) cooling only

I'll try and take a look at my 550's tomorrow and see what number they are, mine are the original Bosch's that were used.
But, you did remap the ECU before trying to start the car, right? You are aware the car won't run or even idle with 440's or 550's without remapped fuel parameters, and the mapping for the 440's and the 550's is different.

Hi mate!

Yes I do realise that. I was initially given a 450cc tune that obviously didn't run well at all with the other injectors I recieved.

Another member here in aus has some 450cc (thought 440s were the old type and now tuner moved to 450?) and they ran beautifully on the tune designed to get me to a dyno for the real tune.

So car is running on other 450s, just need to know what these other injectors are before I install them and try the 550 tune I also was supplied with after I told the tuner I didn't want 550s. I don't want to install an injector that's either driller's or is lower than the 450cc I ordered.

Based on your mod list I don't see why you'd want even 450's let alone 550's.

You paid for an item and isn't receive it. I wouldn't waste my time trying to figure out what they sent you. Bottom line is it's not what you ordered. They need to send you the correct part.

450cc still seems like a huge overkill for your setup.

CGabory, I know I only wanted 450s because it gave me room to move. , 550s were way overkill so that's why I never ordered them.

The supplier is insisting I try the supplied injectors saying they will be ok. I asked to return them for 450s saying I feel more comfortable with them, he said its not necessary. Which i can appreciate, just want to make sure i have the right part before i say ok!

I kind of feel like between a rock and a hard place because they weren't what I ordered, and I don't even know if they are correct as the 550s either. Yet I feel he is getting agitated at me for questioning him and I still want him to do my tune properly. So maybe i should just agree and use the different injector.

I kind of feel being all the way in Australia that it's too much of a pain for him to bother swapping them which i dont want to either because it takes so long. Can anyone help identify this injector will flow the 550 as said?

Wonder if I should get them flow tested to further support my case?

Personally, I also would insist on getting the ones you ordered, I'd site the fact that the 550's you received require a different tune that you don't have installed in your car and with them you can't even drive the car.
As far as 440 to 450, you may be right, I never messed with them and went straight to 550's. 440 or 450 doesn't matter anyway, fuel scaling will be the same or close enough the ECU would adapt to the difference.

IMO, between 450 & 550, doesn't matter of you need them or not, might as well go as large as possible for future proofing, cost is about or exactly the same anyway.
Now that there's scaling for the 750's I'm probably going with them on my new motor, may need them, probably won't, but they'll be done just in case.

The supplier is replacing them for 450s, I put them in on the 550 tune and there was huge backfiring and bucking above 3k. I believe he just wanted me to do some troubleshooting. Very good about the ordeal.

I had 550's and changed them back to 380's and the car ran a lot better even with my mods.

The OEM, and jcw380 injectors both have dual cone spray pattern....
Over the years different folks have tried various other injectors to find ones that spray right, so the spray does not hit stuff, and drip, causing performance issues, like idle issues mpg loss or running issues...all injectors of a given size are NOT the same...when tuned they ARE different.
You should get what you pay for...good to hear they are getting swapped...
I know RMW has had the best results with tuning the 550's for years....good spray good reliability, good idle, more fuel than anybody needs in a sane MINI unless running e85, etc...
There are more than one type of 550...so getting them from a 3rd party, just like using VW injectors can be iffy...IMO was not worth it...if I wanted 550's, I would get the ones RMW sells, just cause they know WHICH ones work best.
I used JCW 380's on mine when I got it...got a great deal...car ran fine, then RMW tuned it...he did say that if I had 550's I would have gained a bit more at he top end...but I was happy...
Good luck with you mod and tune!!

Look here.....post 455-456, 457, etc....
The 550's you are sending back are the best ones....if I recall...good tuner, good products from the sound of it...he tried to do you a favor...but should have asked.

Thanks zippy, and I reread those posts but didn't find my product number attributed to 550s, only the 380s as mentioned by greekdrifter on page 12.
