How much life do you think will the turbo take of the MINI?

YOu mean like if an unmodified MINI lasts 10 years would a turbo last 4, and therefore sell it somewhere in the third year?

If that's a calculation you're doing, you're not ready to Turbo your MINI IMO. I think you've got to be willing to accept that the relability may be an issue you have to be financially ready to repair based on the lack of warranty after you install the Turbo.

That's not to say a Turbo is inherently unreliable, because it's not. That said, since the turbo will void your engine/powertrain warranty, you need to be prepared for the fact that you may have problems you will have to cover.

The same could be said of the Supercharger Pulley mod, although with the pulley mod there are a substantical number of cars running around with the reduction pulley, where with the Turbo almost no one actually has a Turbo MINI and even in that admitedly small group, next to no one in the general public has a production turbo on their MINI.

10 years and 4 years were numbers pulled out of the air. There is no basis in long term testing in either number.

At low PSI it shouldn't cause any damage. Once you go into higher psi #'s then you start getting blown trannys and fried pistons. Aftermarket turbos and superchargers on hondas, vw's etc usually run low psi and have been pretty succesful. The M7 turbo has over 2k miles on it with no problems so far.

Hi honda civic.....

The boost that we are working with is 5-6psi of boost, this is in conjuction with an external fuel computer and one additional fuel injector. The exhaust temp readings has been very low which is promissing.
So far so good, and we should have the Dyno readings this week.

Judging by the way some of us pound our cars (myself included) I'm not sure they'll last 10 years...turbo or not.

you are joking right? because i hate to say it, but i've seen loads of 10,11 or 12 year old hondas that keep kickin' forever. I dont own a honda but i'm
just making a point, kinda.undefined

Well MINI hasn't had anything approaching Honda reliability so far, so I wouldn't count on having it last like a cvcc.

I've got a Mar 02 mini with 30k on it and thinds are going ok. I will admit that the paint is beginning to show some wear despite all my attempts at babying it. I've also picked up a rattle or two. Aside from that, it seems to be working fine. I'm figuring on a 7-8 year life span before the interior components start to break down. I've already had to replace the driver side seat because of failed stitching.

No. My '92 Accord had 130K miles on it and was killed by Hurricane Floyd, so I know what Hondas are capable of. I'm not sure that the MINI has the same build quality - YET. Remember, my car is an '02 build and I have 30K on it, so I have seen some interior wear and have rattles and the like. And, I pound the car when conditions are right. I didn't do that to my Honda or VW GTI. Honestly, the MINI begs to be driven hard. Given that, I'm not sure how long it's going to last. Until I pay it off, I hope.

I ran 22psi on my Talon TSi without hassle forever, but that motor was built with forced induction in mind...

I have an 02 built mini with 20k miles and the only things I notice are some paint wear and interior wear, nothing major.

Spomini I notice you have an Mar 02 mini ...need some springs for your mini?
