Drivetrain alta tuner
If you are buying it used, make sure that it is uninstalled from a car first! I personally wouldn't purchase an AccessPORT from someone unless I met up with them in person to verify that it's uninstalled from a car.

Solve both your questions: buy the AP from www.revelutionmotorworks.com
This is Jan's site. He is now an authorized dealer/tuner with the AP. You should get the best of both worlds!

you mean just buy the access port from their site whats the difference ? and there is also a tune for 500$ , whats the difference between them ?
The $500 Tune goes with the Dimsport tool. If you buy the AP - you don't need that (it comes with the tune)... don't know why it is different other than that he started with just the Dimsport + Tune; then recenly picked up the AP from Alta - and probably decided to mimic their pricing strategy for the new tool.
Beyond that - I can't say specifically. I would expec there are some slight differences between the tunes you get from Alta vs. those from Jan. Jan is known as one of the best at tuning Mini's. I would expect he has some of his own mapping ideas that he has learned with all the cars he has tuned (most recently he was at Thunder Hill tuning Minis (as noted in some of his responses on other NAM threads; and the video on his site).
I'm extremely happy with the Dimsport & Jan tune; I just would like the other capabilities the AP tool gives you - namely the Error Code reading/clearing capability & data logging. From what I have read - it sounds like the AP is a way better tool. The ultimate map on your car probably isn't giong to be that different based on the tool used to load; but more likely different based on who did the programming.
So - you buy the AP from Jan - you get the great interface and additional features of the tool + a tune from a known master (Jan)!
In all fairness though - it sounds like the guys at Alta have put a ton of work into developing their maps as well. People seem quite please with their car's performance.
Bottom line - you can't go wrong with the AP no matter where you buy it. Yes - well worth the $800!

Lot of comments in there and a lot of people rave about it. A few hicups but Alta seems to be good at responding to issues...great customer service some say. Plus it will support a custom tune if you get on a dyno

For all that you get with the unit, it's quite a package and that's coming from an admitted critic of their past works. They're admittedly doing a real good job with this remote tool.
In a word: yes.
In two words: HELL YES!
Buy one, install the stage 3 tune, and hang on for dear life. It makes a huge difference.
I ordered mine from Alta. Very easy to install and if you have any questions they are glad to help.
