Just got my rebuilt charger back today...I'll post some pics..Anyone else do this upgrade. I'm putting an alta 15% pulley on as well. Anyone done any fuel mapping on this mod?

Yeah

Well mine had the death rattle from hell at 93k so it was either replace the whole unit or send it to Steigemeire. I opted for that since the car isn't my daily driver. Rebuilt and ported for $895.

You wont NEED to get a tune by putting that S/C on, it will benefit you, but is not needed. A porting of the S/C has not been proven to be beneficial to the MINIs, as no one has done a before and after dyno... If you follow Steigmeisters general claim of 5-10%hp gain, it should help a lot ! It certainly wont hurt.

Did the rebuilder replace the gears which drive the water pump?

Did they replace the oil seals and bearings?

Do they apply new teflon coating on the rotors?

According to their price listing, he got everything but coating of the rotors.

i'm interested to know what about this is a "mod", it seems to me that its maintenance, or am i wrong that the rebuild did not produce anything but a well functioning albeit ported supercharger???

Did you do the removal and reinstall yourself? The reason that I'm interested in this is because although my MINI has only about 60k on it. I often wonder how long I have before the death rattle will start. And seeing the the car is not driven in the winter, maybe it is something I could work on during those long nights in the winter and just take my time to complete a task that could be somewhat beyond my normal abilities.

No I had a local shop that works on Mini's do it. I didn't want to take the whole front clip off and attempt to put it back together. I just drove it today and with the pulley and porting it pulls harder. Not a huge amount though.

Update..

I spent the weekend driving it and it pulls very hard at the high end between 5 and 7k. I wish the tranny had the updated lower gear ratios because it still seems to lag a bit on the bottom end. I'm going to buy a JCW intake this week and an Alto exhaust and see how that goes. I'm thinking it won't help my bottom end pull much.
