Drivetrain Injector upgrades
Injector upgrades
So once I get around to installing my 15% pulley, I'd like to upgrade the injectors as well. I was thinking about the JCW injectors, but the prices seems quite high. I have a site which I have used in the past to buy go fast parts for my old VW and was wondering if these are the same design as the JCW's? Here is the link http://www.ctsturbo.com/products/Bos...ector-4-4.html I see that the JCW's are Siemens injectors, but can't find a side angle picture to compare the design of the 2.
It has more to do with length and spray pattern of the injector.
JCW uses a dual cone spray pattern. If the inector is too long, or too short some modding to the fuel rail and bracket may be in order....then you also run into clearance issues to the bottom of the intercooler.
You can run into some issues when " winging it" with respect to injectors so read up the many threads here in NAM before pulling the trigger on a set.
My two farthings....

Just get the 550's from Mynes, and a tune to scale them. Or better yet the Byte Tronik S/W so you or somebody you trust can do the tuning.
Best part about the 550's from Mynes is, they are the exact same ones as the compitition sells, but for cheaper and they still have their part numbers intact.

gRay is right. You need to be very careful with your injector choice. The wrong spray pattern will be a mess. Also fitment and size needs to be correct for your use. If you go bigger than 380cc you'll have to have a tune to make it run right.
I was also thinking about upgrading my injectors to the JCW injectors. I am going to install my %15 super charger pulley & +2 lighten crank pulley, in the next 2month.
Do you guys think I should save up and buy the bigger injectors before I start my install??

+1 to Gray Raven.
Going to larger 440cc or 550cc injectors gives you growing room should you decide to make bigger mods down the road (head, cam, etc.). I would suggest getting your MINI tuned before going out and buying them. You may not even need the 380cc JCWs.

I am on the fence about which new larger injectors to get. I am getting a pulley and tune next month among other things (see sig) and it was suggested I go with 550cc injectors for the same reason JumpingJackFlash mentioned, room to grow in the future. As long as the car is tuned for the 550cc injectors they should be okay correct? I am not sure whether to get JCW 380cc or the Bosch 550cc.
I don't plan on adding a header or cam. Should I just get the JCW injectors then? Mike said the 380cc injectors would be pushing their limits with my current and and planned performance mods. I just want to get something that won't damage my engine really.
If you wind up deciding to go for the JCW's I have a brand new set still in the box (never used or installed). I wound up going with a bigger 1.8L stroker motor that was much wilder than my original plans so I never used the JCW's I bought. PM me if you decide to go that way. Just been too busy to list the extra parts I have for sale. Also have a new Schrick cam...
But without a tune its just a waste of gas. I didnt see any difference when i swapped the injectors. Maybe 1 hp lol
However if you go bigger than 380cc, like the 440 or 550, you will need a tune
i believe the highest you can go without tune is 400cc.. i forget who sells them though..m7 maybe?
if your not going to do anything more then 15%-17% pulley, CAI and exhaust then the 380cc with a tune will be fine.

As said above the 380's (JCW) are the biggest you can safely do without a tune to scale them. Running the 550's isn't overkill if they are scaled, they will run just like the stock ones but with a lower duty cycle, and a lot quicker than the stock or JCW's.
With the MYNES S/W all you need to do to scale for the 550's is reset your global fuel scale from a 508 (STOCK scale) to a 350-353 (CORRECT scaling for pump gas and 550's) The car will run as if it still had the stock injectors but a LOT smoother, it wont use any more fuel than stock, and it leaves lots of room for future improvements. Your tuner will thank you in the future if you go big on injectors now, and go big on motor later.

It would lean out a little but not horribly bad, might be enough to trigger a CEL especialy on hot days. I wouldnt recomend changing the header without doing the injectors, it will lean the car right into limp mode at anything above 70 degrees.
I am running a mynes header, larger intercooler, 15% pulley, CAI. Still on my stock S injectors and I live in Florida with temps well above 70, definately seems to run lean when I get on it, never went into limp mode though lol. Dropping some 380's in and having Way do a quick tune at the Dragon.
if you want to take a GUESS, just buy one of the sizes mentioned here, if you want to do it right, get a target for HP (this will require an initial dyno run) and do some maths and planning, rceng.com has a calculator to help figure the right size injector for your application, that's how I arrived at getting 450cc's and they work like a charm with a little help from Jan.
BTW: just cause you can scale 550's to work on the street doesnt make them useful, do some reading and learn what is actually going on with injectors of different sizes and then make your decision. maybe start here: http://www.rceng.com/technical.aspx
