Straight Exhaust Question

Hey,

So after reading all 14 pages on the straight through exhaust thread I feel like no real conclusion was reached other than "just kinda figure it out on your own". I am about to take my R53 to the exhaust shop but I thought Id ask some questions on here first.

Suppose i was to leave the back battery bock and use something like this

----reson----
HEADERS -----resonator-------Y battery --- dual tip
----reson----

Would this set up be too loud? for now I plan on keeping the stock headers.

Or is there a more effective set up. I certainly do not want the ricey sound, but wouldnt mind a good bit of scream at WOT.

Thanks for the help!

sorry the resonators would go around the battery box. the forum changed the spacing.

Yes, it's going to be too loud. A resonator is not the same as a muffler. If you want a straight exhaust, you gotta move the battery box to do it right. I thought about it myself, but in the end decided it wasn't worth it. That being said, everyone has a different opinion, and what I think is too loud, might not be too loud for you. I would imagine it would be pretty loud though. I suppose you could get the work done, and if you don't like it - change it.

It is going to be VERY loud and have a good bit of drone starting about 3,000 RPM. I do not mind loud as a rule but the R-53 motor just does not have a good sound under those conditions . I did a straight exhause setup but used a Borla resonator with a Magnaflow muffler with 2 1/4 inch inlet and dual 3 inch outlets but shaved the battery box to do so .

Check out the pics of the Magnaflow cat-back system and then go to your local custom exhaust guy and have him price out what he would charge to do the same thing. I guarantee it will be about half what Magnaflow wants.

As one of the chief contributors to that straight exhaust thread, I can't quite figure out what your idea is. You seem to be designing a straight through exhaust rather than a straight (no bends) system, which is what I ended up with. Your system will be incredibly loud and obnoxious. It will drone very badly. In the end, few people live with straight through systems like yours.
