I would assume if oil is going into the can then it would take it from the engine, and from the pic if a 1/3 of that is oil then you are removing it at a decent rate.
A catchcan does not change the rate at which your motor consumes oil. It only redirects that oil into the can instead of to the combustion chamber where it would be burned off into the atmosphere. When you catch it in the can, you can recycle it at your local parts store. It positively affects the environment, but adds more maintenance which auto manufacturers don't want. It comes down to politics really.

You don't have to add oil but do check it regularily anyway.
My car doesn't eat oil like some. Lucky I guess.
I think that example you saw is a gross exaggeration. I get very
little oil in my OCC. More water condensation and normally
that's when it's colder outside.
I drain mine about every 2-3 weeks depending on how often I
drive it.
I think as far as warranty (I don't have warranty on mine) but
I think it is up to the dealership. Most are OK with them.
Not sure about afftecting emissions. I wouldn't think so. I know the
older classic mini's dumped that crap out through a tube. The OCC is
catching it and you dispose of it (properly I hope).
Please don't put out incorrect information if you don't know what you're talking about. Check your oil level regularly and add oil when needed to maintain a proper level.

If you're referring to my results as a gross exaggeration then you're talking out of you @ss. An exaggeration would imply that my results are not accurate, which they are. I simply kept a large bottle where I would periodically empty my cathcan into and those were the results. Just because YOUR catchcan doesn't catch that much doesn't mean someone else is exaggerating. What type of catchcan do you use? How is it set up? Do you use a long or short hose to control the condensation rate? You should read through this thread to find out what I'm talking about.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I thought Eggmole was looking at the 1/2 gal. crap as a regular amt. that dumps. Over your 3k
miles, you are right on in quantity wise. Mine is maybe a little less. I got
the impression from Eggmole he thought you had to continually add oil due
to the catch can catching some. I stated also, that MOST of what is caught is water condenstion. And I do check my oil at least once a week as well as monitor my coolant level. I think if anyone reads these threads they should know to reguarily check oil especially in the S's.
Sorry, if you thought I stepped on your pant legs.

And the engine bay, where the catch can is located now is cooler then the air being vented from the engine.

As I was reading through this post I was thinking this exact thing. I know it would be a PIA to drain it but I think this would be the most effective way to get the tubing routed to a cooler area and it would keep the CC in a low point. I would think that running the tubes around lower areas than the CC you would get the vapors collecting in the low ends of the tubes and staying there.

Yes, this is true, but as long as the CC inlet is lower than the PCV outlet then it's not at an issue (Bernoulli's Equation). The only exception I would note is freezing temps which could cause a blockage in the system.

Rear Hose ???

Can anyone tell me what the hose coming out of the back of the rocker cover on my 2008 mini S does? Do you do anything with this hose when you put your catch can system on? THANKS
