CAI Comparisions

Hi there...

Just got a clubman S. Starting to research CAIs.

I have read a ton of threads but was wondering if there is one that compares the pros/cons of each including perfomance gains? Particularily considering there is a $300 price swing.

Thanks

Jeff

Stay with stock/JCW or go with the DoS CAI....

If you want one for noise, well then any of them work, just buy a used one

Stock will perform best, the others will produce more noise (for some its desireable, like me =] )

I don't know about that. I like the DoS CAI over stock.

Understand a CAI is changing the dynamics of the intake system. The ECU was calibrated to the stock configuration , which IS COLD AIR INTAKE. It is just rather long and has some limitations at WOT over 5000. To get the most of a modification, you will need the ECU tuned.

Next. Most, not all, will shift the torque band up in RPM. Great for race, not great for back road twisty and basic driving fun. It is a tradeoff. Low end torque for high end HP. You decide where you want your power: 6000 or 2500.

I run the K&N in the stock MCS box mostly as I have run them for 30 years in everything. Habit. Some have suggested it is too oily out of the box and contaminated the airflow sensor. There is nothing really wrong with the OEM filter.

All that said, the DoS system I may even have to fall for. Just saw their A2W intercooler setup. It seems we really should add a vapor separator and the DoS system provides space for it. I would do the noisemaker delete while I was there.

I want to avoid a thread hijack, but to inform a tad more . . . Along with eliminating 5 feet of charge air tubing, the DoS W2A-IC nixes the noisemaker by putting a special joiner in the place of the noisemaker Y-pipe.
