How much of the original exhaust pipe was used in your mods at the muffler shops?

If I want a resonator (I'm in the louder/deeper zero-drone camp), should I stick with stock, or is there a better aftermarket solution.

2011 S Clubman
Thanks guys.

zeiker, I had the res delete done, so a relatively short stainless straight pipe had to be welded in it's place, and then a small "extension" piece on the end of the exhaust plumbing to push the Mag muffler out to the right spot. Other than that the rest is stock. Go with the res delete. As automan convinced me, it's WAY worth it; great note and very little, if any drone!

I went with the res delete as well. Although I do get some drone when driving on the highway at certain RPMs it doesn't bother me though. I think the extra performance and sound are worth it.

Like Hammy said it's' just a matter of cutting out the stock exhaust between the downpipe and the resonator and welding on a new straight pipe.

I'm dyno tuned through Jan when he came out to ct.

Thanks. I was pretty sure it was a Jan tune since he's about the only one who does it.

Got mine installed today, yay. I opted to not straight pipe the res and cat yet as I wanted to hear what it sounded like both ways. So far it's great, if not a bit on the quiet side. Lots of burble on a 2011, way more than stock and deeper in sound. The stock burble sounded goofy to me, this sounds much better.

Love the sound the car makes now, love the car.

Is there a setup that is bolt on and doesn't have to be installed/welded at a shop like the Invidia setup is? I'd rather just do it myself than hunt for a shop around Boston and trust them to do it right the first time.

Check out the 16815. I think that's what you're looking for.

Mine is still under warranty and my dealership hasn't said anything about it at all, although I wouldn't put it past MINI to use it as an excuse. I'm not sure how they would do that with an aftermarket exhaust though so in this case I think we're safe.

my ma was saying if the engine fails they can blame it on the aftermarket exhaust :-/ thats the only thing that is stopping me from grabbing it right now

That would be quite a stretch to blame engine failure on an exhaust but, like I said, I wouldn't put it past MINI to try.

I already have so many other mods on my car the exhaust is the last thing MINI could use against me.

They cant legally do anything if an issue doesn't directly related to the aftermarket part. That being said, being how it is the exhaust they probably will try to nail you for it if ANYTHING engine related comes up which is why I am thinking of going with a system I dont have to cut the stock exhaust to install. So, if your wipers fail, you are still legally under warranty if all you did is put a new exhaust on.

Sorry, I meant bolt on from the bottom of the DP back...just really dont feel like cutting the stock exhaust system.

I think that is the Magnaflow direct bolt-on version. It's the cat-back system so you should be able to just attach it to your DP where the stock system mounts using the supplied hardware. No cutting necessary.

Can anyone confirm this? Looks like from the shots I can find everywhere that this part involves cutting still but what sooper_cooper said makes sense to me too.

I'm almost embarrassed to say this, but I don't know a lot about exhausts. I have read through the complete thread but am still not sure what parts I need to buy for my 08 MCS, I was on performencepeddler.com, but the parts don't come up for an 08 MCS and I want to make sure I buy the right things. Can someone just explain to me what parts I need to get this exhaust? Thank you so much in advance!

There is a cat after the DP, and you have to cut the exhaust about 3" behind the cat to install the MagnaFlow setup. But it does sound really nice - albeit a little on the quiet side.

I purchased a piece of straight pipe 40.5" long and next week will unbolt the resonator section and replace with the straight pipe. That way if I don't like it I can just bolt the section with the resonator back on.

Yeah thats what I figured. I am really not looking to cut it so probably just going to go the Invidia route that is direct bolt on.

Hey Guys!

I've been looking at so many exhausts lately it's driving me insane! Been contacting the guys over in the UK for challenge parts either the UK challenge or the German Challenge, but with $1060 just for the rear muffler that might be a little to crazy!

However I think I found something pretty sweet but would like your guys opinion... I was thinking of doing a full cat / res delete, 3 inch piping, a Magnaflow Y-section http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...e=main&id=9520, 2 Race mufflers http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...e=main&id=9151 and as finishing touch these tips; http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...e=main&id=9359

I've been looking on e-bay and just for parts it should be roughly around 280 - 300 bucks...

What do you guys think?

I was complimented the other day by a complete stranger, so even outsiders think it's great.

Looks pretty good. Reminds me of the Stratmosphere before they stopped selling it:

http://www.eurosportdesign.com/p-152...xhaust-07.aspx

Google it and you'll find some clips. It sounds real good. If you build it post your impressions.
