Flash tuner tool coming soon from Evolve in UK

I've recently been communicating with Evolve Automotive in the UK and they expect to have a flash tool available soon. Sounds very similar to what RMW offers with the ability to change tunes or go back to stock whenever you want. They seem pretty experienced with tuning the MINI and the dyno charts look good (looks like their dyno reads high as the stock numbers seem high, but the gains over stock look nice). Theyhave a tune for stock cars including the JCW and also have developed custom tunes for different modified components. I'll be interested to see what the cost is when it becomes available. I'm on the list for notifcation when available for purchase, so once I get more info, I will pass it along.

No need to slam a product and company you appear to know nothing about.

I'm just putting information out there as there aren't a lot of options available. Nobody is asking you to buy it, and they are very reputable in the BMW community, so it's not like you're getting ripped off for a junk product.

Also, based on some research of past group buys run on BMW forums, the price could be right in line with the competition. The price for the U.S. would vary based on GBP/USD exchange rates, and whether such a group buy could be put together. I'm a fan of having choices and this being from an established tuning company seemed like something others may be interested in.

I also sent a request for info to Evolve and here is part of their response.

"Thanks for your enquiry.

We are shortly releasing our cable to the USA which will allow remote
upgrading.

We can manipulate the ECU to do most things including removing the CEL light
for downpipes.

We have one of the most comprehensive project files for these cars and have
a huge amount of control + a very good tuning strategy.

Once the cable is released I will get in touch with you."

I hope their statement of being able to remove CEL's from downpipes in their tune is true because to my knowlege all the tunners mentioned on this site do not have the knowlege or expertise to provide this added feature to their tune.

I also looked at the stock JCW dyno before and after for Evolve tune and it showed about 35 HP gain at the flywheeel peak and aprox 50HP gains in mid range area. I am very much looking foward to this kind of results for my 2009 factory JCW because all the tuning I am aware of for my JCW is from tuners that claim the best they can produce in thier tunes for the factory JCW is about 10 WHP.

+09 JCW Evolve Tuning experience?

There doesn't seem to be anything posted out there about this for the JCW from Evolve yet, but the cables have been out for a few months.

I have an E46 M3 with CSL intake and used Evolve cable and Alpha-N tune with great results... but that is a unique Naturally Aspirated application that they specialize in. The technical support and communication is very good so I am more apt to try them for the JCW tune all else equal, but does anyone have experience with Evolve for this application?

The numbers look very good, and if it is like the NA tunes for M3 and M5 they understate the result.

We've been running the evolve map for some time along with their de-cat down pipe, exhaust & FMIC.

As some of you might know, we (myself and Jove from MiniTorque) have had a bit of experience with modifying MINI's. We've had three R53's with 220whp, 236whp and 242whp and last year we came 2nd in the Time Attack championship (FWD class) in the UK and ran a 13.1@108mph at the strip with street tyres and without resorting to NOS. So it was with some trepidation that we decided to move away from the R53 which we knew very well and into the world of R56's. Therefore we spent a long time looking around for a company that could help us get our new R56 to just where we wanted it in in just a few short months and that's when we found evolve.

These guys tune cars worth many times the value of ours from E92 M3 V8 supercharged conversions to V10 M5's so their ECU tuning has to stand up to some very fastidious owners. But the key decision that helped us choose evolve was the fact they'd bought an R56 themselves to modify and batter the s**t out of on the drag strip and on track. Only after they were 100% satisfied that their tune/products could stand up to what their customers might want, fast road or track/drag, would they release the items for sale. Items such as the tunes, down pipes with decat or cat, cat back exhaust, hybrid turbo and CAI.

So far this year we've run our new R56 on road, at the strip and in Time Attack and last Monday put in nearly 40 laps at Bedford Autodrome for the 'How Fast' event and to date its NEVER missed a beat and no CEL lights either!

We've still got a long way to go with ours, as this time we started with looks, handling and stopping before upping the power, but next is cams, heads and hybrid turbo

I can't recommended evolve highly enough, but if you're still not convinced, you can read up on them here:

+1 on what Big Show said. I have heard nothing but good things about Evolve. I personally have not done anything with them but coming from other forums on the UK side, I can say that I have spoken to a lot of their customers. Nothing but good words about them.

Sounds great! I have always wondered why there didi not seem to be more performance parts and sport tune info from the other side of the big pond. With all the racing expertise, currently and rich history, it only makes sense they would know more about these cars.

I am going to go Evolve on the JCW... reading that minitorque thread just reiterates the same experience with the E46 M3... they know what they are doing and are results oriented instead of smoke and mirrors.

I got an Alta Intercooler and silicone boost tube that arrived last night ready to mount, and when combined with an Evolve tune I am looking forward to being forced to upgrade to a proper LSD! Too much torque is a great problem too have.

I ordered the Evolve-R cable/tune so I will soon find out for myself.

Only question is whether I will dyno before/after. It is nice to have quantitative data for objective comparison, but it is a lot of time and a bit of cash. Need to find somewhere in Charlotte I can dyno.

From what I can see on their website, it looks to be $750 with free shipping for the tool and the tune.

Not so good news for 2011+ owners

I inquired about the evolve-R tuning cable for the 2011+ Stage 1 MINI R56 Cooper S 1.6 ECU Remap ‏application and just received this e-mail response:

Hi Arthur

Thanks for your email.

Your car has the newer valvetronic engine which has an encrypted ECU. The evolve_R cable will not be available for this model for the foreseeable future.

Best Regards

Oh well.

So I just dropped my car off at the local dealership for the JCW Stage 1 tuning kit.

That really stinks.

To my knowledge all the R56 ECUs are encrypted. I just think they haven't figured out a solution for the newer engines that have variable valve lift.

I take him at his word. Nevertheless, I have the JCW tuning kit now so I can wait for them to come up with a solution.
