They are all encrypted, but people can only mod the ecu on the 2011 when they have it physically in front of them. All R56s have variable valve timing, but the early r56s don't have variable exhaust timing. They all have variable inlet timing however.

My brother has an evolve tune on his 2010 JCW. He seems to like it. I went with RMW

I thought they added variable intake valve lift on top of the VANOS system that was already in place? Meh...

Maybe you're right. I was just quoting the bentley manual (not always perfect).

"The N18 engine, used in Cooper S models, represents an advancement in terms of power, fuel consumption and technical innovations by using TVDi (turbo valvetronic direct injection) technology. The combination of these 3 technologies along with double VANOS enables high power output (181hp) with low fuel consumption. The N14 engine was also equipped with an exhaust turbocharger, single VANOS (only on the intake side) and direct fuel injection."

Variable valve lift is the Justas only. The turbo negates the need for variable lift, it just shoves it in there.

Yes the Justas N12 and the latest N16 engines do have variable valve lift, the MCS and JCW N14 engines do NOT have variable valve lift, However that said, the latest MCS N18 engine, DOES have variable valve lift.

The variable valve lift operational working range is from: 0.2mm to 9.5mm

Man that sucks... I know they are having some issues but are working through it. Be patient, and it will get sorted eventually.

I finally got around to sending my stock map in last night.I wanted to dyno a baseline, but I just don't have time to do it with work demands, so butt dyno will have to do.

OK so I have had the Evolve JCW tune for a few weeks and just wanted to give some quick feedback.

The car is VERY fast in 3rd gear and above... feels no different in 1st and 2nd. Not sure this may be a built in torque limiting thing but it is unrelated to DSC.

My setup is stock JCW with Alta Performance Intercooler, silicon tubing, and I have the Prosport boost gauge. I made a big mistake buying that gauge, I didn't research it much and just assumed it was a solid option sold by Alta Performance. It seems to be a noisy flashy pseudo-gauge designed to look cool rather than to accurately measure boost, but perhaps it is accurate too... I only bring this up because my butt dyno impression is backed up with boost numbers and I don't want anyone to claim the boost #'s are BS (I assume it is based on this gauge, but at least I trust the relative difference in reported values).

Anyway in 1st and 2nd gear it doesn't seem any different than stock, and the peak boost it will build is (indicated) ~18psi in either gear. However in 3rd it is MUCH more powerful, and the boost will hit 24psi and maintain at 24psi... same in 4th, 5th, 6th... it is amazing how fast it will go from 60-120mph now (in Mexico of course). Cruising in 6th gear it will build really fast roll-on power from 80mph, very pleased with this aspect. It is phenomenal really.

But I want that screaming power available at quasi-legal speeds too (i.e. 2nd gear). I have not contacted Evolve about this yet... but the tune is very good otherwise.

sounds good. with my rmw tune i got more in 1st and 2nd as well but can only pud down as much power as a stock car anyway, it just lights the wheels up.

Yeah, that is a problem in 1st... but not second. I wish it was. That is what makes me think there is some kind of intentional limiter. I guess it is possible that IAT's are too high so the ECU is limiting boost, and at higher speeds (i.e. 3rd and higher) the IAT's are back to safe range. But that shouldn't be a problem now that it is cooler outside.

I wish a had a good mechanical boost gauge instead of this Prosport gauge to know what is REALLY going on with the boost.

Hi Guys,

We have indeed our remote tuner available. We have been launching our different platforms in turn and simply got overwhelmed on the M3 side which delayed our launch elsewhere.

Like most tuners there are a few ECUs that are still to be unlocked but they do come in time. Im hoping the guys can get another ECU done by next week that could be the 07 so hang in there donuttang!

We are now board sponsors and will be here to share our experiences and technical details with you guys!

Hey Paul (or Sal, Imran, or anyone at Evolve),

Has anyone else had this boost limit issue in 1st and 2nd? After a year in many different atmospheric conditions the issue is consistent. Evolve tune is readily apparent in 3rd gear + but acts stock (or even more anemic than stock) in 1st & 2nd. Is it some kind of safety nanny?

Thats strange,
I just received mine on Saturday and after doing about 100ks i would say mine is the opposite, heaps of go in 1st and second. but lacks top end pull(maybe at the end of compressor efficiency). i do always run around in sport mode as with this off its like a crappy standard car. what i would have been happy with is if the non sport mode was like the sport button on so i didnt have to press that button all the time.

A remote tune for my R50 will run me $900 for the tool and tune, so you're probably not far off.

FES AutoSport Module. It can be your best mod EVER for $50.

What is your boost before and after under full throttle? Sport button does nothing except change throttle mapping; 25% throttle = 50% throttle with sport button on but you can't go higher than 100% so it is only a driver perception thing, floored is floored. Sure the car now seems like it has more pep at partial throttle in 1st and 2nd because the Evolve throttle mappings are more aggresive but peak power (pedal to the floor) is unchanged.

The stock JCW hits 19psi (S is only 13psi). My car is still at or below stock levels until 3rd gear when all hell breaks loose and it feels just like the car has >25% increased power, which is commensurate with the increased boost. But 1st and 2nd are tame (and lame).

For clarification, can this tool be used for the 2011-up Cooper S cars (N18 engine)?

Thanks,
