Exhaust tip color look normal to you?

I did some tracking yesterday. After 4 hours tracking, (20 mins track time per hour), I saw some smoke coming from underneath the car. First I thought it was the the brakes, and for about 2 mins, the smoke never go away, then I look underneath the car, saw the middle exhaust rubbers hangers caught on fire, and the whole exhaust pipe was red. Put out the fire. Then I notice my exhaust tip not black color like others car. Anyone have an idea why my exhaust have such extrem high temp? The following are the mods on the car now: RMW tune (remote tune), 15% pulley, Alta IC, K&N Typhoon intake, Magnaflow exhaust.

if your running too lean it would cause the exhaust to be hotter, but i think you should throw an engine lean code before something like that happens.

Based on what you have said and the looks of those pipes you are running very lean. Pull the plugs and check their condition . I would not be surprised to see a little extra aluminum or at the very least some tip erosion.

I am not sure if a blocked exhaust would create such a white tip as those are. The aforementioned heat issues with the headers etc might happen but not all the way back .

The pattern is interesting - part of the tip is very clean while part is still black.......

Makes me wonder if he has a lean condition after all, or was it just that he's running on the track at mostly WOT for 4 hours?

Also, if it was his cat that was on fire, wouldn't that be from running too rich?

I think you are running lean in the upper rpm range. Are you running stock injectors with that 15% pulley? They are fine for the street, but in high rpm situations such as the track, I would get some JCW injectors and the flash for it.

My guess is that the tips were completely coated with black soot from street driving before the track event then the car ran very lean on the track which burned/removed portions of the black. Running lean could be the tune, not large enough fuel injectors, or a combination of both. I would suspect spark plug damage and maybe piston damage from running lean that long. I also suspect that the Cat and Ox Sensors did not enjoy the extra heat.

the cat didn't catch on fire, it was the middle exhaust rubber hanger that was on fire.

Yes, I am running stock injectors with 15% pulley.

yes, the tip was black during normal street driving then turned white at the track....
I checked one spark plug and it look fine. Car still running strong last 2 days even flash back to stock map. The only think I keep getting is the P1498 and the EML light.

P1498 = unmetered air after the supercharger. You've got a leak somewhere.

Ah, that would explain it. Since you were at peak RPM alot, your high boost conditions would have caused a seal to blow out (i.e. come loose). The leak is causing excess air to get into the air/fuel charge, and that's causing a lean condition. Yes, check your seals for air leaks.

There is a good chance this occurred late into your track time, which means you were not leaning out the engine for too long. Think back to whenever you might have perhaps hit a bump (not like a speed bump, but any small lump in the track surface).
