Expansion Tank Relocation

Has anyone on here relocated their Expansion Tank (Coolant tank) to where their intake is and put the intake straight off the turbo?

I want to do this but just checking to see if anyone ran into any problems and maybe they have a DIY with pics

You will probably have to make your own bracket. But where do you plan to run the intake? I was contimplating this and was think of running the intake staight down to underneath the car. Not hanging out but, down toward the bottom of the engine bay.

You did not say what parameter in performance you are looking to change. WHY do you want to make this change?

Looks cool, but.... The length of the inlet to the turbo is part of a tuned system. Changing lengths may effect where the torque band is. You will not know the result until you try it. It is usually not fully understood that the intake is not a flow issue, but also an acoustic resonance issue. Please refer to the published works of Smith and Morrison.

Note this would put the filter right next to the HOT turbo. Not good. Some baffling to ensure cold air is in order.

Note low mounted filters are infamous for water ingestion and the resulting destruction of the engine.

Thihnk about what you are trying to achieve. Do some research, then go for it and report on the results. Pre and post dyno results would be in order.

If you do a low mounted intake you can also get a bypass valve which under hard acceleration pulls air from higher up on the intake tube.

Short Intake

I setup a short intake tube once but the MAF did not seem to like the setup. My guess is that it did not like the bends. I may try a straight tube next.

Below is a couple pictures:

This solution is so obvioius, it begs the question of why the OEM intake path is so circuitous. Tvrgeek's comments have merit, but I've left my copy of Smith & Morrison in my other desk...
I expect that the turbo may negate their findings, at least for street applications. I think noise control and finding a place to put a properly-sized filter are the main issues.
As for water ingestion, these rerouted intakes get ambient air from the same location as stock.

I would love to relocate the coolant expansion tank just to make oil filter changes easier!

In my work a flow meters is suppose to have X amount of straight pipe up stream and Y amount down stream for the flow to straighten out.( usually 10x the pipe diameter up and 20x the diameter down stream)

I put a CL meter on my mustang and that was one of the things they required was at least 6" of straight pipe upstream of it.
But with the mini meter being on the air box this does not seam to play into the idea. I put the M7 air box on and now the meter is after a 90..... who knows
I would lean towards having a good straight run after the meter and that would duplicate the OEM some what......
