05 MCSa - VGS Will Do Anything Positive?

I plan on installing a boost gauge on my currently stock 05 MCSa this weekend and since I would have everything apart in the same area, I wanted to know if the VGS set up would be beneficial in any way or would I see any diffrence with my car? I don't suffer much of the yo-yo effect they talk about in the how to for the VGS. I plan on having the 15% pully installed also by the end of the year if that has any impact on wether I should do the VGS or not.

I did not really need to install the VGS mod, either. I actually gained a small amount of yo-yo associated with the plate bouncing back and forth between fully open and fully closed. Requires a learning curve on part-throttle pedaling at low RPMs. I just have a hard time turning away the instant "on" feeling of the boost when I do a hard acceleration. I'm gonna break down and get the DT BPV sometime in the near future and take the VGS mod off.

I'm sure you already know of this, but here's the link to the VGS mod thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ystem-vgs.html. It's really long but worth reading.

This is exactly what info I was looking for! I really am happy with the way the car reacts now, I just want the 15% pulley for when the a/c is on and the little more kick. So I guess it looks like just a inter cooler cleaning and boost gauge install for the weekend then.

Sounds good. Make sure you use the same size 5/32 hose and tee fittings, or you may experience slight delays in boost readings (it would definitely have an impact if you did integrate the VGS mod). You can get a full multi-piece tee kit at Autozone for like $10. The end of the boost line at the rear left corner of the intake is much easier to get to then the end at the fuel pressure regulator. When you read the VGS thread, you'll see the diagram I am referring to.

I too just recently bought a boost gauge. I was just going to follow Alta's instructions (http://www.altaperformance.com/share...ampinr205b.pdf) Is the location they recommend a commonly used one?

I did this mod and now my boost gauge never reads over 10PSI. It used to read 17 or 18PSI (I have a 17% pulley). It's not a delay issue because it never goes above 10PSI no matter how long I stomp on the gas.

I teed in the boost gauge at the fuel pressure regulator end, together with the bypass valve hose.

The car feels like it's actually getting the correct amount of boost, it just seems like the gauge is wrong.

Has anyone else had this issue?

When I had the mod installed, I installed the T fitting at the end to the rear of the intake manifold (opposite of the same hose you used). My boost gauge never read any different. There have been some others who had issues with their gauges reading lower values. Search the forum for "boost gauge" to find them. Beyond that, only thing I can suggest at this time is go back and retrace your hose connections.
