Limit of Aisin Transmission??

Hi People,
Does anybody know the maximum limit of torque the 6 speed aisin tranny in the R56 Cooper S can handle, have searched and someone mentioned 350 NM, but there seems to be no definitive answer for BHP/torque?? I am about to tune and would like to find out the limits of the gearbox.
Any help appreciated.
Jon. UK.

having the same question and did not find any answer :(
Looking forward to get 200+bhp and 300Hm of torque with automatic transmission, but no one can say exactly the limits.

Hey Ottoman,
Yeah, guess I worded my original post badly, I am not looking to go anywhere near the limit of the tranny, but without knowing what the limit is, makes the whole situation of any potential tuning somewhat risky with the R56 aisin..
Nobody seems to have any definitive answer as to whether or not this is the same aisin box used in the later R53's, so I guess it's going to be a bit of a waiting game.
Again guys, any info you may be able to get hold of would be greatly appreciated.
Jon.

Yeah fella, I feel your pain. I think the figures you quote are pretty much safe, probably approximately what I am going to strive for.

Jon.
As for me, I have never seen such a transmission that would be broken because of additional 20% power, that is why I do not really worry. Guess that aggressive ride and drag-racing and much more harmful. SO I am doing to get more power and use it quietly most of time without madness.

I wonder if the torque limit of the auto box is the reason why the JCW Stage 1 kit isn't available for the MCS ?

That could be a clue...

Hiya, I'm not sure about the US market, but the JCW Stage 1 kit was released here (England) for the Cooper S Auto some months (Approx. Can't remember exact time scale accurately) after I originally purchased mine in October 2007, I remember pestering the dealer about it initially and they were trying to push me into it when it finally arrived for the auto cars.

So yeah, over here in the UK, the kit for auto cars has been out for a while.

But for the money you pay, other than maintaining warranty, it really does not appeal to me, more so now there is a factory works car available and I am soon to be out of warranty. I have been bone stock since Oct' 07, so for me it is time to tune, I have been patient long enough and am willing to pay for any failure, I am aware of the risks and am still happy to go ahead.

As you guys probably know, many R56 S owners over here have been running approx. 240BHP and 250lbs/ft of torque with no issues for a fair while now on manual cars, achieved by full milltek, panel filter and modified tune, there have been no reports of failures of the aisin on the UK forums and I am almost sure they are tuned to 250lbs/ft and holding up, but not everybody that tunes is active on the internet, which led to my questions to you guys as I am sure some of the US aisin guys are running the RMW tune.

I guess in the grand scale of things R56 S tuning is still in its infancy compared to the R53 guys, so we will see, more and more cars are coming out of warranty by the day, I guess I am going to find out for myself soon, will let you guys know what figures I get and how the tranny holds up in the future.
Thanks guys.
Sincerely
Jon. UK
