Stock intake tube slipping off turbo inlet

Hi all, Ive been away for awhile and now i am on leave and installing all the parts i bought while i was gone, vortex scoop, heat shield, gauges, R105 wheels...

that being said, when i was installing the heat shield, i noticed the stock intake hose was half off of the turbo air inlet. it has driven fine and it doesnt seem like its leaking, but i figure it cant be good and only a matter of time before it slips off completely. So i reattached it and tightened the clamp down, drove it around base, and it was right back where it was.

I've had an Alta CAI and M7 STB installed nearly a year. so im thinking the intake or intake/STB combo is tweaking the intake tube. it is the old model intake so i had to cut the shroud myself, im thinking maybe i didnt cut it deep enough and so the STB is applying pressure on the intake shroud which is tweaking the intake tube? any thoughts? thanks in advance.

2008 Clubman S by the way.

Update- i played around with it some more, it slips off almost as soon as i put it back on. i noticed if i really tightened down on the ring clamp it came off sooner. i tried keeping it a bit looser and it still eventually slipped right out.

there is an inner sleeve type thing (technical term) on the intake tube where it connects to the turbo. now that is slipping out of the intake tube as well.

has anyone experienced this or know what to do?

You should contact Clint at DOS. He sells a T-bolt clamp that fits, and will most likely fix the problem.

Make sure you clean the interface of both tubes with IPA. Oil occasionally gets on this interface and causes this to happen. Over-tightening the hose clamp will just damage the hose clamp.

Agreed.

Cleaning the turbo inlet and the inside of the hose with denatured alcohol, isopropyl alcohol (IPA), or brake cleaner is key to making sure that the hose clamp can do its job.

Took a close look at your pics and saw something else you might try. Loosen both clamps and rotate the hose counter clockwise about 1/4 turn. The hose does not appear to be lined up right. I did the same thing when I put on my m7 CAI. BTW, if that don't work, welcome to the OCC Club (see huge thread here). Good Luck!

alright, cleaned it up (yuck), rotated a bit, and it sits a lot better now, not quite perfect, but it will do for the moment. i started it up and it didnt move any further. I'll check it again after driving a bit more. maybe this means its time to get the hard pipe... although ive been waiting for DoS to figure out how to mount the JCW pipe so i can one day switch to their intake as well.

it looks like the OCC will have to be moved from the "want" list to the "need" list.

thanks again for all the input.

I had the same issue. No amount of cleaning helped. I called my local MINI dealer and they replaced the entire tube under warranty. I guess it is an issue.

duknbubs,

You can get more info on using the JCW inlet tube on an MCS here and here.
