Intercooler issues...

I had my intercooler checked out, and everything looks fine... but yet this problem still persists

It leaks a little oil out on the same position after I drive the car.

It has been tightend, nothing wrong with the boots etc.

Is it a common thing for boosted cars to pull oil through?

the pictures shows the oil it accumulated over a few days.

Hate to say this but you have a crack in the weld - the pic on the right.

Looks like you have a Forge?????

Yes, it's Forge. Where do you spot this crack? How can you see it if its leaking through the bottom?

Look for the line of dirt/oil

the good news is a good welder will be able to fix you up fast for not much money. Oil leaks aren't hard to find..... So...

find a welder who's good on Al.
take him the IC
he'll clean it
he'll weld it
he'll take a little of your money
you'll put it back on the car
it will all be behind you

Matt

There is more than 1 crack along the weld. Trust me on this.....40+ years worth of metal.... When this was installed, were the mounting bosses shortened? If not, there is way too much pressure on the IC mounts.

Put the OE back on - the boost will come back

Doc has it right, it's not a difficult fix.

Also did you buy this used? If so, did the boost go away after the install

It was purchased brand new from forge last year. At the time when I installed the cooler along with a tune, I gained 14hp over stock. Car doesnt seem to pull the way it did that time though. Maybe I should send it back?
thanks all for your help.

You're welcome. I run the same IC, IT'S IMPORTANT that the mounting bosses be shortened at least 1/8" to avoid this problem. I didn't crack mine, however, I could see an alignment issue during the install. Other than that I like this IC better than others I have used. It realy shines here in the NE especially at night.

Sending it back might be the ticket. On the other hand IT IS an easy fix. If it was me I'd grind the weld off, cut a slot, fit a plate & weld it up = better than new

I edited your pic, to make sure you could run a DIY pressure check at home with some baloons, hose clamps, and an air compressor. Even a tiny leak can make you loose power, get it fixed and your car shuld pick up again. You might have never known about this if you had a catch can.

Hey Rick, movie star tan yet? I see you're staying out of trouble = good

There's no reason for a presure test, I can see the cracks clear as a bell.

Here's a close up pic. Red Indicates where the cracks are.
If the crack is on the face, how is it that the oil leaks through the bottom?

Gravity still works on that side of the world right?

For the most part the oil that goes through your I/C is just a vapor, after you go for a drive the vapor settles in the I/C, and as long as gravity does what it is supposedto it settles at the bottom. That is why the oil is coming out the bottom of the crack and is visible on your intake manifold.
