Drivetrain intercooler spray
intercooler spray
i was looking into doing some weekend track days this summer and wanted to get my 03 mcs ready. has anyone used a intercooler spray setup? it would just be a simple water spray set-up due to my budget. just wondering if its worth the money or not really
Here is one I did. Used the rear window wiper pump.

I live in Houston and it gets really hot out here in the summer, works great!

you got the mister jets at lowes as well? i found a universal kit for about $75 that comes with its own bottle and pump n all i think im gonna order it n try it out. it doesnt come with spray jets tho
And yes I painted everything myself. It's a paint called "Plastic Dip" that you can get at most Home Depots, Lowe's, or Walmarts. You can check out a lot of threads on here about people using the paint. Holds up great and is very easy to get off as well. Prep work just required cleaning and then spraying! That's it! And the headlights I got on eBay!
I have one, but use it mostly when waiting at traffic light to alleviate some heat soak.
I'm not sure it will be very helpful on a track - not a manual setup anyway...Most "new" trackday drivers will have too much occupying their mind when on track to remember to activate the water spray. ...I know MRT in Aus had an automatic setup for Subaru's long ago (they even hooked up to the ECU to monitor temperature and boost).
The spray helps a little bit I have to admit (if you remember to use it) - but even better (and safer than it sounds) is water/methanol injection.

One other thing to keep in mind where is the water that doesnt evaporate going to go? theres going to be some run off you wouldnt want water pooling some where it shouldnt. Just my .02
Have you looked into Co2?
Oh, yeah, good point...on the Mini the water will definitely be pooling where you don't want it...I try to spray very short bursts - flooding the IC doesn't really serve a purpose - you want most of the water to evaporate, not run off somewhere else.
