2nd Gear Tranny Problem

Got a problem with 2nd gear that just showed up recently. When pushing hard (+4K rpm) and then backing down, it's popping out of gear, but not all the time! No noise of any kind, it just pops out. Only mod I've done there is the NM Torque Arm Bushing, but can't see how that could be the problem. Is something out of adjustment?

i had a similar problem when i was driving normally in 6th gear, i would start to accelerate and all of a sudden it would pop out of gear. usually when this happens it not a good sign. i ended up having my tranny replaced by the dealer

Oh Man, I really didn't want to hear that! Think it's safe to drive a few more days if I take it easy? New tranny? AARRGAAHH. BTW, how'd you know about my term "Blecht"? Do I know you? Don't exactly get along with them very well.

Yo Chris. Should'a known you'd be a WCM'er, LOL! BTW, haven't been able to make it pop out of 2nd for two days now. Hope it's OK till the Penske shop opens up. C-YA on the 18th? - Old UFF-DA (44)

Had a similar problem, plus shifter was stiff.Took it to dealer, readjusted a hose that shfiter cable was rubbing against and lubed the gearbox. Everything seems to work ok.

Also had a similiar problem. It was caused by the boost tube by the intercooler. When putting the tranny in 2nd, it pushes a bracket forward and it would hit the tube (because I didn't have it aligned exactly)

So, by any chance, you haven't installed a boost tube, have you?

If by boost tube you mean turbo outlet/hot/down tube, I sure did! My first engine mod about a year ago. He goes up on the jack first thing tomorrow. Put it in 2nd and crawl under and look, right? If that's what it is, I'll owe you more than one as it kept Beelzebub out of Blecht's hands!

Dwight,

You don't have to crawl underneath it. Just open the hood and have someone go through the gears (the car doesn't even need to be running)

You'll immediately see the "arm" that thrusts forward from the tranny. Mine would go into gear and almost immediately "pop" out.

I just had to loosen the clamp on top and readjust my hose.

I hope that's what your problem is...it'll be an easy fix.

YIPEE!!! That was it . Couldn't wait till the AM. Pulled the overflow tank to see what was going on and there was scuffing on the silicone tube. On full boost it would definitely pop it out of gear. How the H*** did you ever puzzle that one out? You get 5 'atta boys from me, 3 warm fuzzies from my cat and a geenormous hug from Beelzebub for your help.

Same thing happened to me the day before I was ready for a track day.

I panicked thinking the worst and then thought about it. It wasn't consistent, if I drove it normal, it worked, if I got on it, it popped out of gear.

Well, glad you got if fixed....
