Muffler delete ?

I have not seen inside the charge tube muffler so I have no idea what is in there. Is there any reason it can't be hollowed out instead of replacing?

Picture the inside of a glasspacked muffler, it is open all the way through but it has holes causing turbulence all along the lenght. The little holes (along the sides) are what cause the air to slow down.

Thanks David, I guess a tube with smooth sides is the way to go.

I did mine today. Just got a piece of 2" Aluminum pipe 8" long. Put a bead of epoxy on the ends to stop the hoses popping off. Took me an hour to put in in and all is sweet. Cost me $0 as I already had the epoxy and got the pipe from a friend who had some laying around. I have an extra piece if anyone is in the west L.A. area.

On a side note, there was a fair bit of oil in the muffler and the pipes to the intercooler. I'm thinking an Oil Catch Can might be worth doing after all...

Go with the NM Engineering pipe. We've installed a bunch of these and they work great. They also fit better than any of the other brands we installed. Plus it has a hard pipe rather than being completely silicone that could flex. Also they are smooth inside. Cutting open the stock one would be cheaper, but any small leak can cause a check engine light or even the car to go into limp mode and that just isn't worth it.

This is a great pipe!! You should go ahead and get the NM charge pipe as well..... Way can fix you up with both!!

+1 on the NM pipe I like mine a lot. I am debating finishing it off with their intake.

So is this a mod that can be done with everything else stock?

How does it sound?

Anyone have pix of an install?

On a side note has anyone ever installed cutouts, or a cutout, on this car?

Thanks

Yes you can do this mod with everything else stock. But if I were you I would throw a Helix or Forge intercooler on while you are down there. Sound wise, maybe a very tiny bit louder, but nothing that you would really notice at all. Lastly, I never have heard of cut outs on this car.

What are the warranty implications of installing the muffler delete pipe?

Never had an issue with any dealer with any of my mods including the muffler delete.

I notice the sound with the windows down, especially in an undercover car park. you can hear the turbo boosting and spooling but no power gain.

I removed mine and installed the M7 silicone one. The only hard part is taking off that damn bolt thats holding the muffler onto the car. Very tricky, sounds nice though.
