That was the first time that the USPS.com ever made me fill out customs forms to an FPO. Between that and the hassles given to me my the staff at my local post office, it was a bit of an adventure getting your parts off to you, J_'09s. ( . . . but a happy customer is my favorite type of customer !)

Is there one you'd recommend buying?I'd hate to hear the cost of the JCW version.

The JCW intake tube is $116.26 (NAM Price) from Classic MINI in Ohio. DoS will be determining if there's a way to fit it on a non JCW 'S' this week.

So i installed the pre fabbed bulkhead and intake and it went on relatively hassle free. The intake sounds fantastic, wish i had bought it sooner.

Just installed my tonight! I am coming from the M7 AGS-R intake (which fits like s*** by the way). I love it! The install was a breeze and the sound is very nice. I am getting my car tuned this Friday, so I will see how much power it makes.

Thanks to Tim (09MellowJCW) I am now a member of DoS CAI club. Since we live near each other we made plans too meet up, compare cars and have some sushi for lunch a few weeks ago. We went for a ride in his JCW and then we went for ride in mine. I went home and immediately ordered the DoS CAI. Clint was great to deal with via email.

The intake and the bulkhead arrived via FedEx on Thursday and Friday of this week. Just an FYI the bulb weatherstripping comes pre-installed on the bulkhead...nice touch Clint!!

Since I am mechanically/car repair challenged, Tim removed the NM Engineering intake that has been on my car since November of 09 and replaced it with the Defenders of Speed intake and the pre-drilled bulkhead. Tim did the work and I assisted.

And now for the results...

All I can say is WOW . Its one MEAN sounding intake. Its is absolutely awesome!!! Its not too loud though, Clint does make a noise baffle for it but do yourself a favor and pass on that part. After all why get a noise reducer to put on an item in your car that makes a mechanical symphony. One of these days I might turn the stereo back on .

I can hardly wait for the RMW/Helix tuning event in Philly in April to see what my car is capable of on the dyno.

Thanks again Tim!!

No problem Steve, it was my pleasure. Just glad I could help. Thank you for the M7 strut brace!

I have run into a problem with my DoS intake. My factory JCW turbo inlet hose would not stay on the turbo. Has anyone else with a JCW had this problem? It didn't matter how tight the clamp was (I actually tightened one up so much that it stripped) it would simply work it's way back off the turbo. After trying to adjust the angle of the
new intake several times, I finally came up with a solution.

The problem was that the new intake puts the factory hose more to the right (looking at the engine) than the factory intake. This pulls the inlet tube in that direction. Eventually it will almost come off. Last night it slid off just sitting in the drive overnight. I had been checking it repeatedly, so it never came all the way off.

I had some extra anti rub hose covering laying around from my OCC hoses. I took a length of it, fed it through the hook on the top of the engine, pulled the turbo tube over where it belongs, tied the ends of the anti-rub covering in a square not, tucked the ends in, and wire tied them tight. This seems like it will do the trick. This fix also keeps the DoS intake in the hole straigt, and keeps it from rubbing on the box next to it on the firewall. What do you think?

Yes, I have this problem. Mine doesn't work its way off, but it doesn't sit flush anymore. About 1/4 inch off, I'd say.

It will fit fine, you just have to take the stock rubber sleeve at the turbo end and transfer it to the new pipe.

Hmmm? Thanks for bringing this to my attention. We haven't seen this particular issue before with the hose actually working its way off the turbo.

I just got back from AMVIV 7 about an hour ago (and I'm wiped out), but one solution that pops to mind is doing a clamp upgrade to a T-bolt clamp. Although there's a guide slot for the narrow factory hose clamp, I think that it's more than possible to put a wider t-bolt clamp at the turbo inlet and call it a day. However, I'll need a little time to organize an in-house 'group think' this week to confirm or deny this.

If anyone else is having this issue, please drop me a PM or email. If something needs fixing, we'll get on this ASAP. I'll send the parts for the solution that we come up with to whoever needs them -- free of charge, of course.

Thanks again for this heads-up!

Hey Clint,

I tried a wider/stronger clamp too. Same problem. I tried incrementally tightening it. I had it so tight at one point that it destroyed the factory inlet tube. I had to get a new one. It never did come all the way off, but it was very close. I also tried trimming the "clamp nubs" off the inlet tube to get a better clamping surface. DO NOT do this. The clamp will not stay in place no matter how tight you make it.

I'll take your notes under advisement, but we'll do some playing out here on our end of things to experiment a bit. I'm positive that this can be an easy fix for those who are experiencing any issues.

Thanks again for giving candid feedback to DoS, Tim. It's always appreciated. You're a true asset to the DIY MINI community.
