Alta CAI Trouble?!

Alright, I need some help. I just put in the Alta cold air intake. I thought I did it all according to the horrible instructions. I checked all the connections, plugged everything back in, etc. I start it up, oh its a nice rumble. I go about a half mile and the engine light comes on and the idle goes up to 1400 rpms and then when not moving, the idle goes up and down, up and down between 1000 and 1800 like its starving for air?? I again checked all connections, its all fine...

Its too cold out and late to go back out in the horrible unheated garage right now, but I thought I might try resetting the ECU? But then again, the battery was disconnected for well over an hour, shouldn't that have done the trick. I am lost, confused, have no one to turn too, and would be screwed if this ended up costing me more money. HELP!!

Jerid, please feel free to chime in. I need to drive places, and right now I am afraid I'll make something worse.

You must have missed something because you can run the car with no tube and filter.

Unplugging the battery doesn't reset the ECU.

Did you in anyway loosen the connention of the throttle body to the tube which connects it to the super charger ? In other words the other side of the throttle body from the connection for the tube to the CAI ? If there is a leak there you will get some similar symptoms to what you are now having .

I can't imagine I did. So not to my knowledge. I don't even think I could reach under there. Some guys on another forum think it might be cause by a vacuum leak?

You should be able to hear whether you have a vacuum leak by starting and shutting down the car: for about a half second after shutting it off, you will hear a sucking sound. Chase that sound down if you hear it, and there's your leak.

Did you get this taken care of? Definitely better to call us than to wait for me to find threads like this please. Sounds like the throttle body isn't plugged in all the way. Make sure the connector "clicks" into place. Did you check the code in the ECU?

I put it in late last night, so I couldn't have called you.
The boys on Motoring Underground suggested checking my intercooler boots since I did take it off to get at the breather tube thing. I didn't see a code. I looked too. I had my Bentley manual ready to find out what it was. I'll do some more looking, but If I don't have any luck, I'll give you guys a call.

Hopefully I haven't done any damage by now...

Its hard to reach in there and connect the hoses again. So I removed the intercooler and I had no problem reaching it.

This isn't the same sound you hear 1-2 seconds after shutting the car off is it? Like the car letting out quick breath...

Alright, I was told to take a look intercooler again if the silicone tube was on right, as it was. I took the intercooler off last night so I could reconnect the breather tube to the inlet hose (Its hard to reach). And when I put it back on one of the seals creased and was leaking air. I took it back off, found out what I had done, fixed it and now everything works great! What a sound that thing puts off from the SC!
Now I just need to get rid of the 'service engine soon' light? Would resetting the ECU do so?

Awesome! Glad to hear! I would just go to your local autosupply store and have them check and reset codes!

Nope can't do that without a GT1 or Autologic Diagnostics.
