Spark plug non-fouler mod on Alta TBE

Has anyone done this? I searched a little and didn't find a post on it. I installed an Alta TBE this weekend (along with my DIY homelink). Even though the alta has several cats, I'd read that a CEL still comes up. A common cure for other vehicles is to space the second o2 sensor out of the direct flow of the exhaust gasses. I decided to give this a try and picked up part 42009 at the local autozone. I made several 15-20 minute trips yesterday, and my standard 1 hour commute this morning without a CEL.

the defouler doesnt work on minis, your cel should come back on sooner or later..

Has any thought been given to why it doesn't work? Theoretically, the second o2 sensor should be receiving a signal that is much smoother than the first sensor. By spacing it out of the flow, this has been achieved. That's why it works on so many other cars. I sent an email to o2simulator, and they said that their o2sim for 02-06MC/S would work for the 09, but they had some reports of it not working. They didn't elaborate on why it didn't work on all 2nd gen minis. Keep in mind that the sim (with a heater resistor) completely removes the second o2 sensor.

I'll look again for other posts on the topic to see what has been tried. I actually used both of the spacers, drilling out only the one that the sensor mounted in. I still may get a CEL, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The defouler doesnt work on ALL MINIs. I know of several people running defowlers (including my 06 R53) and no CEL. The later R56's seem not to have as much luck though....

I currently have the non-fouler on my R53 and it only worked for like 500 miles, and I belive that R56s are more sensitive as far as emmision related things.

If you have an '09 you got the privilege of getting the more sensitive ECU. The fouler worked on many '07s and '08s. You'll get a CEL on every high flow catted downpipe no matter what on '09+!

I finally got a CEL after the 3rd tank of gas. It has come and gone several times since then. I just thought I would update here in case somebody stumbles across this thread.

im guna go ahead an dig this one up. im planning to install the megan racing header and test pipe which eliminates the cat. i previously owned a '04 nissan sentra, and while being a totally different car, the non-fouler method did work for me in that situation. i currently own an '03 R53, and i'm going to try this either way, but what i am curious to is, would it make more sense to use just 1 non-fouler, or both? assuming both are drilled out to ~1/2" so that the "appropriate" amount of EG is flowing "around" it, just a bit differently... any info would be apprecaited.
