Drivetrain ***OFFICIAL SIGN-UP THREAD for FLASH TOOL***
Everyone seriously interested in the flash tool:
Let's get the payments taken care of as soon as possible so the flash tools can be ordered. I got a track day coming up in a month, and I would like to receive the flash tool as soon as possible. I would like to terrorize some of the more powerful cars on the track!!!

I can understand not having the money, but that's a lame excuse, members have been posting the results of Jan's tunes for years, and the R56 tuning days have been going on for approx. a year and a half, if not more
and the tune just keeps getting better as Jan improves more & more aspects of the ECM's plethora of maps.People, please get your payments in asap, let's get these ordered !
Results of the tune or the tool? The tune results are all over the place. The tool is pretty simple... Select the map you want which you load into the tool and upload to the car; not much to it...
pre Jan tune 185hp... post Jan tune 215hp with the same mods! Jan just put them all together better and more efficient. My mini now is way more faster and respondes a lot more better. I am 100% satisfied!... if its in the funds, you should do it!
As I posted early in this forum (page 23) you can see the dyno numbers of Jan's tune before and after. Your missing out on a great opportunity to really get the full "FUN FACTOR" from your mini.

I agree with this, this whole tune and tool is so vague. What is the canned tune, what are the numbers, does in have instructions? Do you really get JCW tuning kit results without the intake and exhaust?
It looks like $369 for the tool, $500 for the tune, add $400 for an intake, $750 for exhaust and you are at the same price of what a JCW tuning kit costs, but now you don't have any warranty.
I have a stock Clubman S, but I would like more power without sacraficing mpg and I don't want any more noise.
The RMW website doesn't offer any information either.

Alright I paid for the tool . Can anybody give me any idea on the hp numbers on a jcw with a m7 hs bt and a forge ic with the stock airbox with a alta foam panel filter. This would have to be a canned tune for me . I just don't have the funds to get on the dyno. Just got a nasty pay cut at work. Thanks dade county
Oh and I will pay for the tune when I get the tool . It gives me time to save up. I need a occ . I pulled my intercooler off and had some sludge in it. But it's clean now. I'm going to run the stock ic for awhile . Car seems to run better too. The ic needs a tune. I'm hoping for 220 at the wheels or in the butt dyno ha!

You don't need the tool for a tune. You can go get a tune from RMW and get waaaaay more than you would from a Stage I kit and have no more than 600 bucks in it. The tune is only so you can put the stock tune back in should you want to. I personally have had this tune on for about 17K miles and the dealer knows it)
Next, I'm not sure why you're spending 400 for a CAI but you can buy a used JCW intake for under 200 bucks (I JUST did this week)
Third, exhaust isn't necc. Unless you're doing downpipe and FULL exhaust, adding a catback is mostly for sound. Again, for 300'ish bucks, you can buy a brand new JCW Stage I kit (I JUST did last month)
Again, I reiterize that just a tune from RMW will give you far more than a Stage I kit. (been there, done that)
HTH's,
Mark
PS. And btw, the numbers below, well, they're probably a little low. It's had a "retune" since then....

that is horsepower to the road not at the flywheel.

A stock Cooper S with a automatic made over 180 whp and 200 wtq at the rmw tune event in orlando .
those numbers are to the road not the crankshaft.auto transmissions consume more power than a manual .
a manual will have higher numbers ,
+1 and i shelled out the bucks for the stage one... if i could do it all over again i would have never got the stage one. when i had my tune apt i asked him if the dealer would know, he said that the areas he uses during the tune process, the dealer wouldnt need to look at and they would almost never even know you had a tune other then the better performance of the mini. there is no visible proof. yes it will pass smog just fine. with the tool you could always go back to before your tune like the stage one or stock. it holds 3 maps. and if you ever get any more mods (like an intake or whatever you desire) you dont have to go anywhere tie them together. you work with Jan and he can make/send changes to you. simply hook up the tool to your PC and download, then upload to your mini.. he said it comes with very detailed instructions..but its along those lines
IMO i wasnt very impressed by the over priced dealer JCW stage one kit... yes there was a gain and it sounded nice but with that your really buying more piece of mind then anything...with this your buying performance. huge difference between the two when your driving (i noticed right away)... you can buy piece of mind but you can DRIVE performance.... just my opinion..a 'canned tune' from Jan is better then a manufactured tune from your dealer.

When I had my '08 MCSa, I couldn't wait any longer for someone to come up with a tune so I bought the Stage I. I'm friends with the GM of a one of the mini dealers and he hooked me up unbelieveably.
So I bought it and installed it. The car ran MUCH better, the best way to describe it is "it's the way the car should have come from the factory".
Having said that, it was a great mod but there is NO WAY it compares to an RMW tune.
If I had known then what I know now, I would have gone directly to Jan and skipped the Stage I kit.

what a RMW Dyno tune will do for you check my dyno sheet and look at the results. They speak for themselves
