Drivetrain ***OFFICIAL SIGN-UP THREAD for FLASH TOOL***
Jan is constantly 'touring' the country either with race teams or attending dyno/tuning sessions setup by clubs or shops. You can always call him and find out if/when he may be coming to a town near you.
Keep in mind, Jan's tune usually costs more + dyno time and you're not going to have the option of flashing back to stock or easily updating your maps as Jan makes improvements.
The JCW kit does not give you the factory JCW sound (like Jan's tune) and neither the airbox, nor the rear muffler, really do anything for power.

but Jan's made improvements since then and most everyone at the tune day made bigger gains.

you can always attend a tune event or contact Jan...i'm sure Jan can chim in on this for clearity but if i'm not mistake he can send it to you if you bought the tool.. i think he said email you or something like that so you can load it on the flash tool and take flash tool to your car and download the stock or existing tune so your ecu is clear, then upload the new tune thats he has for you based off your ecu type and so on....at least thats how i interpreted it when we spoke. the purpose of this tool is so you can get a professional tune and not have to be in person i believe. actually seeing him at a tune event will have its obvious advantages, like the dyno time and info gathering and test and result and test again but its my understanding, and i may be wrong, but this tool will make remote tuning possible... Again this is only my opinion after our conversation so this is not any official directions...
Yes, the tune price is for canned or dyno tuned, you just need to pay for the time.
Awesome....
For the sake of those who can't read through 28 pages of material (i DID!) and haven't been following the development of Jan's tuning since last summer (me), i think there should some details about the tune, the process to get the tune, etc on the OP. Just to clear up all the confusion and help people feel more comfortable making this purchase.

Why the big difference? Reason I'm so curious is that Jan couldn't get anywhere near the power out of his tune that he expected for my '08 MCS. At the time, we thought it might be a crummy chain tensioner repair at my abysmal dealer a month before, but could the dyno have been set up wrong? I'm looking at the 2WD - 4WD thing in particular. Am I just being paranoid? Don't relish the idea of giving the dealer another chance-it!
not sure on the difference... i do know we have different mods(that might make a gain/results different).. it took a while to get these numbers though from the dyno.. Jan mentioned my ECU was not like ones he has seen in the past for some reason.. it was like a 4+ hour appointment!
When people get a custom dyno'd tune at one of the events mentioned countless times, they obviously yield better results than a canned tune. Now my question: Is it possible to get a custom tune if your sitting on a dyno in say, florida whilst receiving various maps via email from Jan? So basically getting a custom tune without Jan having to be present in person?
You'd obviously have to pay dyno fees. i just want to clarify if this is possible. thanks a lot

^^ jan Im sure will answer but the answer is yes. He doesnt have to be sitting at the dyno with you in order to get a custom tune.
Lets say for example you paid for a tune and want it to be custom. You will schedule a time with Jan when he is available (I assume is how itll work), go to a dyno at that time and get some base runs. You will then send the datalogging information in an e-mail to Jan which will then create a tune for you, e-mail it back and you can upload it to the flash tool to upload to your car. You will then do another pull on the dyno, see how it ran etc and it will keep going back and forth until you are happy with it (and he is too I assume
)
Hope that helps/makes sense

That makes perfect sense thank you. I can't find the post, but i specifically remember someone saying that this tool does not datalog. Anyone else remember that being said? I hope i'm wrong.

Thanks, but AARRGAHH, this is getting confusing. Jan also spent +3hrs on my tune (3/12/10) and commented that it too had an ECU he'd never seen before (build date 12/07)! After seeing your HP/TQ numbers, I turned green. Those were nearly the same numbers Jan quoted me before he started the process. When he did the dyno fine tune, all it would do was 185HP and 222TQ. That's when he/I knew there was a problem, most likely cam timing. Power starts dropping at 4500rpm. Guess I'll have to take my chances with the dealer again. BTW, when they did the chain tensioner repair, the kit was listed on the work sheet as "misc. body parts"! Paranoid? You bet!!
