Old header rusted out need help with OBX

Hi Guys:

Looks like I got a free flow exhaust for free. It's just too loud.

I just did a forum search and the OBX header seems like the way to go for both economy and performance. My stock header in the area right after the cat and into 1st bend, rusted clean off. The guy at the garage says that I need a whole new header and cat. Helix used to do these installs with your old cat trade in, but they are not advertised anymore on their website. A new stock header and cat runs about $1300.

Is there anyone in the MD, DC, VA area that does this work and has the components in stock? I do not want to spend a ton of money on this. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. BTW I also have an Invidia cat back installed.

Thank you!

We discontinued these headers when they changed the design. They started reducing the primary diameter to make them easier to weld to the flange, instead of butt welding them like they did initially. The result was a restriction at the top of the primary. If your shop can temporarily weld your header, there's a solution coming down the road...

Thanks for your reply and suggestion Helix. It was informative and it is appreciated.

I am hoping to knock this thing out and not worry about it again. Does anyone else have a another suggestion as to which route to go?

Check the marketplace...

for a used header, post an add for WTB a stocker. Check eBay and wrecking yards. You can do a stock replacement for a whole heck of a lot less than new.

Dude,

I too have a good used one if you choose to go that route. It's off an '04 MCS with about 40,000 miles on it.

All the best!

well have a OBX and it works great. Bought it cheap here on NAM. Sometimes people are selling them for a affordable price. If you want a stock header I have one cheap. Just PM me.
This one just sold a week ago https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t/9124/cat/all

So you could find one here for a good price

Hi Guys:

Thanks everyone for their replies and a big thanks to Helix. I just got my nused 06 header installed yesterday. He had an extra one available. The work was done very quickly. I was shocked. Everyone there was friendly and very knowledgeable.

The car sounds and feels like a completely different car. I am thinking that the header was probably leaking long before I noticed it.
