Unichip Universal Tuner Kit

I know that a ECU tune is much better at this point than the Unichip. However has anyone played with the 2009 Universal Tuner kit? Any thoughts on it. You can see it for yourself on their website.

I would avoid it. A lot of people are dumping their UniChips.

I already realize that a lot of people are dumping the unichip. Mostly due to the harness issue and the ability of getting a custom tune.

I was trying to find out if anyone is using this with their unichip to do a custom tune on their own.

What exactly is the "harness issue" with the unichip. I am considering getting one for my 04 MCS, and would like to know if there is a better option. I am planning to do the 15% pulley, CAI, Header and replace my bad bypass valve. I would assume a tune would be ideal with these bolt ons. Any suggestions are welcome thanks.

I got rid of mine because I was tired of getting the P115d code everytime I put my foot to the floor. But I miss it because it made my car fast..... Very fast....

The "harness issue" is related to a bad bach of harnesses. I think the issue has been resolved.

The way to go for your 04 is a Detroit Tuned BPV.

The Unichip is a pretty good solution for a DD, especialy if you get 1 used - I have 1 that may have less than 1k on it - it was used for testing only - the tune = 16%, CAI, Cat back. PM if interested. It's nowhere near what you can get with an ECU flash. However, no problem with state emissions - a recal to the dealer that requires any type of ECU service will not be effected, it's easily removed.
RMW & Mynes rule here, they've got these gen 1 engines sorted pretty well.

I also would like to know about the Unichip universal tuner kit..........

The unichip actually sounds like a better idea in my case than a custom tune, only because Id rather have a plug and play solution so I don't have to rely on a shop to tune the car. Is that error code a common issue? Unichip doesn't seem to think so, but why would they. Either way, it sounds like my way to go. Thanks for the input.

Yes every person who was running a unichip on our cars that I have seen posted that they where getting the P115d code. I think it has to do with the Mass Airflow sensor. The unichip flows to much air and the code comes up. it will vary depending on the other mods you have, the less mods the less the code will come on. But like my car once you have all the mods every time I floored it the code came on and it cut power.

I was so mad, I sold it and the guy beat me in a race (closed course)with it on his car. And all he had was that and the Alta intake I sold him, well plus it was a 2007. You know they have more boost that any other year. (on the S)

Im soooo tempted to put my unichip back on but I had the same issue with that damn P115d code, it didnt come on for months then it would be on all the time. When I didnt get codes I loved it but getting that damn light kills my buzz every time.

Has anybody figured out if the new JCW car has a different MAF sensor?

So I looked up the MAF part numbers

Cooper S 13627542418

Cooper S JCW 13627582553

I wonder if swapping to the JCW would fix the problem, anybody tried it yet?
Perhaps they are calibrated differently?

The p105d is a gen2 code. I've never seen that code on a gen 1 "S", so, IMO, it's uncommon if ever on a gen 1 "S". I'm not even sure if the gen 2 has 2 sensors - we have 2, a pre MAP a non "S" sensor Cooper & post T-MAP "S' part.

The Gen2 does have 2 sensors. Do you know which sensor the p105d is?
