UPDATE - put the sprung part/raised center section towards the pressure plate per a Chevy S10 Haynes manual and looking at the CM/Exedy pictures...lol. Hope it works!

Like all DMF to LW Flywheel conversions the sprung hub has to face the flywheel for clearance.

Clutch central hub is offset towards the flywheel as per stock. You'll see when you remove your stock stuff. Have fun!

sooo....I do have it wrong. According to the vague pics on the CM website, and the Exedy exploded view, it's the opposite. Wonderful!

Put up pictures of the parts so we can all see. I don't think that pictures on the CM website would be wrong.

To my knowledge that is incorrect. The raised spring center is supposed to face the single mass flywheel, fitting into the recessed area that is present in order to keep the same dimensions as the OEM.

The picture jhiggs26 posted has the extended spine hub facing away from the pressure plate. This extended spline hub is facing the same direction that a sprung hub disc should be facing as well.

Nabeshin: Can you show me the clutch masters pictures that you found? If they are just product pictures it's to show that the disc is sprung and made of Kevlar fiber.

Here's the pic from Clutchmasters:

Here's on Exedy's website:

Both show the extended/raised/sprung hub section facing the pressure plate....so that's how I installed it. It's only a matter of taking the pressure plate off again, so I can swap it - just want to know what the right direction is...

I can't believe they don't just friggin label the sides so you know what's what - in the directions it says there's a sticker indicating flywheel surface/pressure plate surface, but my disc doesn't have them :(

The direction you installed the disc for the CM is incorrect, it's supposed to be facing the flywheel. The reason the Exedy one is shown differently is because they designed the system as a package. You will not be able to run any other clutch kit with the flywheel that comes with the Exedy Hyper Single due to the design, likewise with the Exedy Hyper pressure plate.

So what you're saying is I need to turn it around...? WHY is this so vague? It's unreal how much time I've spent looking for the answer to this question - and for something this critical too. I've literally poured through the forums using every search parameter I could think of, google'd the crap out of it - all with little success.

The reason the larger portion of the sprung hub needs to face the flywheel is due to the movement of the diaphragm springs on the clutch hub. If the sprung hub is facing the diaphragm springs, it may be possible for the diaphragm springs to make contact with the clutch disc and prevent the clutch from releasing. To prevent this from happening it is required that the available space from the disc hub to the diaphragm springs remain constant from OEM to aftermarket.

I've talked to Clutchmaster about this before and they say it doesn't really matter, but recommend putting the larger spring side toward the flywheel.

Again springs/offset towards flywheel Gokaht.

You can see the FX200 disc through the pressure plate on my MINI here. It's working fine that way! Remember to go easy on your clutch the 1st few hundred miles.

OK, I'll turn it around - even though half the members and apparently CM themselves say it doesn't matter - I was always convinced this was a pretty straightforward and important step. I'll snap a pic of just the clutch in its place, and report back in a few hundred miles to confirm. No one seems to have taken a pre-pressure plate clutch pic lol - I intend to do just that!

Thanks to everyone for the help.

What happens if you install the flywheel backwards?
