Drivetrain Pipercross Viper Intake vs. BMP Intake for MC
Just debating between the Pipercross Viper, which is reportedly the only "true" cold air intake, and the BMP intake. How different will these intakes really sound? I assume that there won't be much difference in performance gain between the two, am I right?
The Viper is about 100.00 more, so I'm in serious debate. Is it worth the extra dough?

I have the Green twister intake and it too is a true cold air intake. I'm very pleased with it. Cost was $190 from Pilo Racing but they no longer show it on their website. Could try Green Filter website instead

The Green Twister and Viper Pipercross have had some fitment issues - not true for all installations, but some.
Dyno tests running the Twister on my MC yielded maybe 1-1.5 HP gain. Intakes sound awesome, still up for debate as to whether there is a true significant gain in HP from istalling them.

I like my viper, but I have not had any other to compare it to. I do like that it links to the intake from the grill. Were I to have an S I'd SERIOUSLY think of linking it to the cowl area and get a cowl scoop. I would however pull the thingy that lets the water drain in case of heavy rain and such. Here is a link to it installed on my Mini.

dandp,
Thanks for the dyno numbers which are sobering. Rule of thumb #1 for the MC. Intake gains are going to be minimal so check your wallet then decide if you are going for show, sound, or stealth (simple drop in foam or green filter for $39 or $44).
I would have expected a bit more out of the Green Twister as a true CAI but 1-1.5 is still under 2 HP. Adding the exhaust upgrade does help a bit. Perhaps we would see 4 HP if there was a good cat-back exhaust. Or maybe I am dreaming. Was the test done with an aftermarket exhaust on that MC?

I had a K&N filter, at first I thought every ran good,
after a while the performance seem to suffer quite a bit when taking off the line.
popping and stumbling.
So I switched to the Viper, car runs very good now
The K&N setup is a lot louder under the bonnet than the Viper.
Only thing with the Viper, the kit came missing hose clamps, mailed the vendor and recieved no reply. ( Hey they are only clamps! right, but for the price, and the parts list has them listed. I should not have had to get my own. )

Since the Viper uses the stock intake plumbing, you should look at getting a PRM intake. I have one on my integra. It's very similar in shape to the Viper as it's an enclosed conical filter. The hose for the CAI looks like a dryer hose. You could use anything for that. The filter, by itself, is about $130. For another $20, you'd have a comparable system for half the price.
BTW, becareful with the Viper, it can suck up water in the wrong situation. That can't happen with the BMP set-up.
