The most popular and time proven pulley size is the 15% one. As your car is out of warranty, I don't see why the dealer wouldn't install one.
Well there's a good chance I will ultimately, but I was trying to identify something the dealership could get. Unless I go with overnight shipping, and place the order like now, it won't get here before the cars done

As a prophylactic measure I would have them do the crank sensor seal. It WILL fail eventually and when it does they will have to disassemble the front of the car to replace it. That should add very little to the bill. You may be able to find a full JCW SC salvage, but you don't have time to look.

Inquire about the JCW injectors (380's) at the dealer and how much they would charge (if they are not including those already as part of the head install). Although not a power adder, the injectors are recommended if you change the pulley and have the jcw head. All jcw kits include larger injectors.

Just a thought...

IMO given dealer labor rates, you're better off just getting the car back and taking to a local shop for a pulley install.
That, and given that your head just essentially grenaded, if it were me I'd want to get it back in working order and make sure it's working right before adding another variable. But I'm cautious like that.

The last two posts really hit the nail on the head. Right after deciding to put off any additional mods, I got a call from the service manager. After talking to some particularly respected tech out of Chicago, the concern had been raised that without the JCW DME, there would be no way to adjust the air/fuel ratio to the JCW settings. My only thought is that the JCW injectors might by themselves inject enough additional fuel to offset the additional air. That's all I got. If anyone has a thought it would be much appreciated.

W/o a specific tune to take advantage of the injectors, they will not add any real performance to your car.

But to get the full potential of the new JCW head and pulley, that is something you will need to really consider getting soon.

I agree. But right now the more pressing issue is finding a way to optimize what's gonna be a really jacked up air fuel mix. With Hondas this could be done with an add on controller, but ive never seen anyone that had one on a Mini. How is it that the dealer can't plug a laptop into the OBD port and change stuff?

The stock ECU is more than able to compensate for these changes, the mods just won't be optimized for the most power.

Okay. Considering the fact that in all of the material we've discussed on this thread a blown supercharger was only mentioned in one post, I think that its time to start a new thread on this problem.

Just get all your stuff put on and then get Jan from RMW to remote tune it. A/F issues no more!!! He'll put it into the safe zone for you

Okay. First, I need to say something. I have never dealt with RMW. I have heard the praises for years, and simply never had the money or need for their caliber of product. After facing the possibility of not being able to use the JCW Head, I called Revolution Mini today. Before I could even express interest in one of their products, Jan expressed his inability to understand the concerns of the dealership, and tried to convince me that I really had nothing to worry about. After receiving additional information from the service department, I again spoke to Jan. It amazed me that he would let me monopolize his time, and that he was so willing to try to help me, although we had never spoken before, and doing so served no benefit to him or RMW. I gotta say, RMW made quite an impression on me, and if they could get a website up that fully illustrated their inventory, I would go buy something now out of principal. I cannot convey my satisfaction with the service I received today, not even as a customer.

What Jan told me was that the DME (ECU) is an extraordinary piece of hardware. Although it might not be set up for the JCW head, it will ultimately "learn" and adjust itself to settings optimal to its operation. Additionally, the unit can also adjust to, and find optimal settings for fuel injectors from the non-s Cooper's to the 380cc JCW. The dealership was worried that the computer would be unable to manage the extra air, but Jan also to me that RMW has produced engines capable of moving 30 cubic feer per minute more air than the factory cooper. Not only this, but it can do you on a non JCW DME. So, no more concerns. I agree with Jan's assertion that MINI and its employees simply hadn't run the types of tests that RMW had, and their concern was likely out of a lack of experience.

Hey, whats all invoved with the ECU remote tood.
Thank you Jan! 'Night, all.

At 1 time, I believe, the JCW "kit" was a dealer installable option. You could google this & see if, in fact, this is true. As I recall the package was around 6k.

What I know, for sure, is, the dealer can flash your DME - "JCW" tune. It use to cost around $100 ( it was included with the JCW kit ).

Get the dealer to throw in the 380s in for cost, $4500 is a lot of money for a head & install.

Well, here's the follow-up. There were a number of discoveries, one being a busted fitting to the BPV and two bolts missing from the TB... Not contributors, but interesting.

Looks like carbon buildup and a bad fuel mix really jacked things up. The job is gonna include 380 injectors and a Dinan intake for free. So I think I at least came out alright. They did work with me and the price came down some.

Gold stars for:
Jan at RMW, Mini of St. Louis, Deluxe Tow Hook/AAA, and thanks to you all who've helped out. This should be resolved soon. Oh and the Clubman S was a pretty sweet loaner. Might be my next car.
