Drivetrain Fuel Consumption
Fuel Consumption
I dont know if its just me, but once the tank reaches the half way mark, it just falls down so quickly compared to the top? i certainly get more milage from the first half.

There are actually two tanks in the Mini that are joined up at the top (over the exhaust channel. The one tank has a pump which pumps fuel into the other tank that delivers it to the engine.
And yes, I have the same thing with mine...could get 220 miles out of the first half and maybe 120 out of the second sometimes.

Most vehicles do this. There was an article in Motor Trend a year or so ago that explained that the gauge is programmed to move slowly off of Full and then decline rapidly towards Empty once past half full.

Two tank pumps? Is this true? Odd.
i still cant understand getting 200miles from the top and then about 85 - 100 miles from bottom?? I can clearly see how fastly the range drops compare to the rate it dropped when it was at the first half..
Guess its just one of those things we got to live with..

I don't know if this is relative to the r53s... but in the r56 it's like this:
10 marks: full tank
9 marks: 3 gallons burned/11 gallons left
8 marks: 5 gallons burned/9 gallons left
7 marks: 7 gallons burned/7 gallons left (half a tank remaining)
6 marks: 8 gallons burned/6 gallons left
5 marks: 9 gallons burned/5 gallons left
4 marks: 10 gallons burned/4 gallons left
3 marks: 11 gallons burned/3 gallons left
2 marks: 12 gallons burned/2 gallons left
1 mark: 13 gallons burned/1 gallon left
In other words the 1st mark is 3 gallons,
the next 2 marks are 2 gallons each
and the 7 remaining marks are 1 gallon each.
Basically.. when it looks like you have like 3/4ths a tank left on the gauge.. you actually only have half a tank
