BOV?

Are Blow off Valves like the Forge compatable in 04s? I see them in a bunch of newer models but I haven't seen one in a older model.

Blow off valves are only for turbos, like the 2ng gen cars. The 1st gen cars have superchargers and use bypass valves.

Whats the difference between a Bypass valve and a Blow off?
Could you not use a a blow off valve instead of the Bypass valve
or are they both not just getting rid of excess air

Step 1: Press the search button on the top right hand side of your screen.

Step 2: Type in the blank box "blow off valve" or "bov"

Step 3: Press the "go" button

Step 4: Read the thread titles of the search results, concentrating on those that are in the 1st Generation Drivetrain area of the forum.

Step 5: Sift through the several threads that have been created from people with the same question.

Step 6: Find the answer to your question in these threads.

Step 7: Share the solution to your problems on this thread, so we can be trippin' with ya.

Good luck!

detroit tuned by pass valve is the only thing you need to know, go buy it now.

blow off valves are hott on turbo cars because they make a loud noise of air each gear but it wouldnt work on our cars because the supercharger is constant, but with the dt bpv you get your boost quicker so go buy it

A blow off valve releases boost pressure from a turbo when the throttle is released to prevent a compressor surge. Basically, without a blow off valve, the high pressure intake charge will be held in by the closed throttle and will send a pressure wave towards the turbo slowing it down rapidly, which stresses the turbo parts and creates turbo lag if the driver stomps on it at this time.

A supercharger is always spinning, theoretically making boost. But you don't want boost all the time, like when you are just cruising. So a bypass valve is incorporated to let the intake charge bypass the supercharger going straight to the intake manifold. When you press hard on the gas the bypass valve closes, as if by some kind of physics magic. At this point, all intake charge is sent to the s/c and the boost is contained and forced through the rest of the intake tract into the manifold. This is why you only hear the whine when you get on it, despite the s/c spinning all the time.

For future reference to anyone reading the thread. The vacuum that holds the valve open disappears when the throttle plate opens causing the spring inside the BPV to force the valve shut.
