detroit tuned by pass valve is the only thing you need to know, go buy it now.
blow off valves are hott on turbo cars because they make a loud noise of air each gear but it wouldnt work on our cars because the supercharger is constant, but with the dt bpv you get your boost quicker so go buy it

A blow off valve releases boost pressure from a turbo when the throttle is released to prevent a compressor surge. Basically, without a blow off valve, the high pressure intake charge will be held in by the closed throttle and will send a pressure wave towards the turbo slowing it down rapidly, which stresses the turbo parts and creates turbo lag if the driver stomps on it at this time.
A supercharger is always spinning, theoretically making boost. But you don't want boost all the time, like when you are just cruising. So a bypass valve is incorporated to let the intake charge bypass the supercharger going straight to the intake manifold. When you press hard on the gas the bypass valve closes, as if by some kind of physics magic. At this point, all intake charge is sent to the s/c and the boost is contained and forced through the rest of the intake tract into the manifold. This is why you only hear the whine when you get on it, despite the s/c spinning all the time.

For future reference to anyone reading the thread. The vacuum that holds the valve open disappears when the throttle plate opens causing the spring inside the BPV to force the valve shut.
