Alta R56 Lightened Crank Pulley

Hey everyone!

I was wondering what you all thought about the ALTA lightened crank pulley... I'm VERY impressed by the sway bar and their other products, but this is a semi-serious (as in it will take me a couple hours to replace if an engine failure happens) mod.

Is it really worth it? Will it cause any problems in the future (that you can foresee)? I've got a copy of the service manual and all the torque specs, so that won't be an issue. Let me know what you all think!! Any opinions appreciated!

P.S. I'll totally make a video of how to do this if it all works out!

I have the alta lite crank pulley with anout 200 miles and no problem. I did not check the balance before install because the prince engine has internal balance.

The drivebelt sits real shallow for my taste but we shall see if it a problem down the road.

Internal balance will not prevent that pulley from destroying the motor if it is unblanced. Alta isn't know for having problems with that product. Other products that is a different story. You aren't going to see any real gains in power but it will help throttle response and reduced rotational mass which is always a good thing.

Good to know! I'm going to go ahead and pick one up because of the 20% off deal they have going on... It doesn't look like an ultra-difficult job... And plus, I have the service manual so this should be a breeze...

On another note... what products are you talking about??

Would not be the choice for my first performance mod, not even in my top 5. Just curious, why are of thinking of modding this?

I can tell you from personal expecience that the only 2 parts from Alta that i would purchase are the lightened crank pully and the boost port adapter if you need a boost gauge. The crank pully is extrordinarilty well made and the poost port adapter does exactly what it needs to. As for exhaust/intake/intercooler/boost hoses its ALL crap. I had the full silicon hose set for mine and I ordered a custom hardpipe kit to replace them. The silicon not only is poorly measured out and manufactured but it rips on certain parts of the engine bay that it hits due to not enought R&D on Altas part. M7 makes probably the best intake ive seen (Super AGS) and all there other products are fantastic except the oil catch can wich does nothing, a good catch can its the BSH...not tas pretty as the M7 one but it actually works. basically alta is what people buy who have not done any research or searched the forums. So in my personal opinion the only Alta parts worth buying are the lightened crank and the boost port, leave the real HP gains to the experts...

Definitely not in my top 5 either, but once you get to the stage Im at where its about getting a pull power band and a muchhhh improved throttle response i would pick it up for sure. Its very well made and its a very noticeable difference in throttle response. VERY noticeable.

I don't think Alta sells the crank pulley anymore for the R56. I couldn't find it on their website.

I think this one went bust just like their infamous cold side boost tube, the inlet boost tube, the IC diverter and their Unichip.
