Drivetrain Boston Pulley Round-up
I hope you guys had an alright day down there today in terms of weather. Yesterday was awesome but a little chilly.
I have some pics but they are just from my install so probably boring for everyone else:
http://www.lagparty.org/~jared/gallery/pulleyparty/
I had a blast meeting everyone yesterday but I couldn't make it down today. Is the guy with K XXX plates on the boards? He didn't get anything done but was just hanging out. Also, are Rich and Rich on the boards? Not sure everyone's names on here.
Gotta love the sound from that intake!!

The pulley is absolutely incredible. I can't believe this is really the same car. The entire 6 hour drive home was filled with countless downshifts, to endless throttle mashing, to good god I better grip that steering wheel a little tighter  I still can't get over it. Thanks Randy...you the man...your work and the company was definitely worth the 6 hour trek. I can't wait to give people rides again, it's like getting a new car
What the hell does the powerchip feel like? Can't be better than this.
cheers,
Amit

Amit, 6 hours, nice!!
I just now found your track vid, did you do the airbox mod with your Madness intake? I thought it was the ALTA until I just saw your sig.
You are right, giving rides will be even better now! My dad was like "you like that noise?"

I promised I'd write-up a report, so here it is.
According to Randy, my car is Webb Motorsport #190. I had pulley, ECU software, and Alta Intake installed. I was really tempted to get new plugs also, but decided against it. Besides, you Sunday guys would not be too happy if we bought all the plugs on Saturday, right!?
Randy finally got my software installed by 4:30 and took me out for his famous test drive. It was very impressive; I will never forget that ride. (I am sure a few other drivers will never forget the sight and sound of a blue MINI zipping by) His heel and toe was done perfectly; man I wish I could drive like that.
On to the car. The sound of the Alta intake is awesome. I normally would prefer less noise, and I was orignally quite concerned about the extra noise Alta intake would produce. Yes, the noise is there, but it is not too loud. It sure sounds very distinct, and everyone who has been in my car all commented on the noise. I am not sure I like the woosh sound that comes on before the supercharger whine though. The supercharger whine is cool, but I still have to get used to the woosh.
The power is very impressive. I even noticed a large improvement in low-rpm torque. I used to often not give the car enough gas when starting in 1st gear, and the car would lug a bit. With the software, the car doesn't lug anymore. It is just smooth power, even on the low end. Give it more gas, and the supercharger whine comes on, and you get pressed into the seat. Awesome!
I know that Randy modified the throttle response curve. I have to say he got it perfect. In stock form, I always find it hard to make 2-3 shift smooth. With the software, I can easily get my 1-2 and 2-3 shift to be smooth. It takes much less concentration on my part to drive the car now.
My car and yoyo before the modifications, and it is still there. With the Alta intake, you can actually hear the intake sound changing when the car was yoyoing. This lead me to believe that yoyo was caused by movement in the throttle butterfly. If yoyo was caused by fuel injection, I don't think there would be such a significant change in intake sound.
After the pulley party, I visited friends on the Cape. One of them was interested in MINIs, and I gave him a ride. He was very impressed, and I think you guys might have another MINI on the Cape in the future.
Alright, time to go out and drive more!

The pulley party is definitely the way to go. As others have stated, the pulley, especially with the ECU remap and other mods, rocks, and Randy is our rockstar. You learn much and meet some great people at a pulley party. However, the area is left forever changed. After Randy's bonzai test drives there are more than a few people in Hyannis who will now dive for cover or fill their Depends when they hear and see a hot MINI coming their way.
After the experience and the track stories I must get to a track in the spring; otherwise, my latent agressive tendencies will incur the wrath of far too many local drivers, and my car is too conspicuous to hide. On the way home I played Michael S. and Juan Pablo at 90-120 for 20 miles before the traffic was too much and I headed for the backroads. There were a few others that were dusted or impressed, but the best was the smug SOB in his Jag XKR who thought he owned the entrance ramp. After I disabused him of that notion, he offered me his middle digit. I drifted back and made certain he and his significant other had ample view of my more obscene gesticulations in reply. He punched the gas to get around me and I let it fly. When we hit 110 he lost his ***** or she cut them off. Now I have to calm down, but the car is just too much damn fun.
Thanks to Randy and to our host, Bisch, and greetings to all.

Randy,
WOW! What a difference! Made it home without meeting the officers either for the unfortunate reversing incident or from my right foot.
To the two guys who didn't show up on Sunday without even a phone call, thanks (sort of) from me because I got your intake and plugs, but, it sucks that you left Randy out to dry with two empty time slots that could have been filled. I'm glad that I came early for my appointment so at least all the time wasn't wasted.
Amit, I'm glad to see that you got home in one piece. You looked like you were ready to rumble when you pulled out!
Thanks again Randy and thanks Bisch for the space. It was fun to meet some of the other guys!
All the best,
Scott

Oh my aching head! Thanks for the Monday morning hangover Randy! I parked my "wagon" around back last night.
It was great to meet all of you over the weekend. Anytime your in the area, please stop by.
It is absolutely amazing to see the reaction of everyone after they have the pulley installed. Nearly everyone says "why didn't I do this sooner!"
Oh, and Dan, your 2-1/2 hour trip back home should not have taken you 1hr. 35min.!!!! Good Lord!

Thanks again Randy and Bisch. It was great fun. I wish I could have hung out even longer.
The pulley and intake are amazing. I wish the track and autox seasons weren't over - I'll have to wait until next spring. Maybe these mods will improve my ice racing times this winter - doubt it - torque and ice don't mix well!
It was great meeting everyone, I hope all of you are coming to the MINI Meander this Sunday. Check it out here:

Hey Everyone,
I posted over on Randy's site, but also wanted to say "Hey" to everyone over here on MCO.
My girlfriend and I drove down late Saturday afternoon, sans 04 MCS (ship departed Southampton Sunday). I wanted to meet Randy and my fellow MINI enthusiasts. First of all, I had a fantatic time. Definitely worth the 2.5 hour drive from home, and the breakdown on 93.
It was great to meet everyone. Randy -- I can see why your pulley parties are so successful. He kept us laughing the whole time. Should his automotive career fail him, he's got potential as a comedian. Bisch -- you did a great job in setting up the back up plan !!
As I said on Randy's site, if you ever have any doubts or misgivings about doing the pulley upgrade, just go to your nearest pulley party and then take a look at the grins on the owners faces as they come screaming back from their "check ride" with Randy. No questions.
My only regret was not having my MINI with me. Oh well. A 2000 mile drive for a new pulley will definitely be in my future.
Again, it was cool to meet everyone. Looking forward to seeing you all on the track, and on the roads in New England.
Cheers,
Erick

Erick, cool...I was wondering if you would surface online. I was the younger guy with the hoodie, got my pulley and intake done while you were there, and Randy almost knocked you down following my checkride.

>>Yeah, you definitely scattered us all like geese on a golf course. The smile on your face said it all though. I'm very jealous.

Awesome about the upgrades! I hope some of you are going to the Mini Meander this weekend, I'd like to see the effects of the Pulley/software/intake!
Quick question, those who got the Pulley upgrade, how many miles did you have on the car?

Jurni,
I'll be there on Sunday for the MINI Meander. I got my pulley and intake on Sunday. And I have just under 15K miles on the car.

The track video is with the airbox mod on a Rogue (Madness) intake. It sounds almost the same as an Alta. Alta is the best kit, my rogue was a preproduction model that I've had for over a year. For those who haven't checked out the video here is the link...
The Great Chase!
I nailed the turnout cone at the end of the session, there is a post somewhere around here with a full write up.

I think mine was about 200-300 miles when I did my pulley. Header and exhaust and intake etc. all done by 100 miles  . I started my modifications at 12 miles!

Carl, I had 11K + Don't know why I waited sooooooo long! Randy is the best. For all of you contemplating whether or not to have the pulley upgrade, what the hell are you waiting for!? Simply awesome!
Dan
Ritchie and I enjoyed hanging round and watching Randy do his magic. Boy......does he make those pulley changes look easy.......It was also great to see everyone's face after Randy's "test drive"!!
I had the pulley, Alta intake and Powerchip upgrade done last August (all purchased from Randy of course!) I think our Mini had 2000 miles on it when I had the pulley done. It was like getting another new car!! After the installs I purchased a radar detector .....for a little added protection!
It was great meeting everyone on Saturday.

Jurni,
I had around 14,500 on mine when Randy did the pulley. I just got back from a run down to NYC and back and it was great. Made excellent time (averaging around 75, including a big slow down in Providence) and, it seems, better milage. Thanks again Randy!
