Drivetrain RMW Tuning OR Hubie Tuning??
I am not sure if I will be able to make it to the event but I am going to try as it does look like a good time . My car still has the Vitesse Pro tune on it , I am sure you remember Emile, and it is running fine enough for me at this point in time. Jason did one thing for me at AMVIV which was to lower the temp at which my aux fan came on . In L.A traffic I wanted my fan to come on a bit quicker and not be dependent on running my AC to make that happen. He spent a few min connected to my ECU and bingo it now comes on at 200 degrees every time . Amazing what someone can do when they know what they are doing . Perhaps some of you SCMMers attending the event might want to mention that to him while you are there , works like a charm.

Racing cars, not so much?
We in SoCal are very lucky to have both of these tuners local to us!!
Hubie has never worked on my car, but I just had Jan retune it at Church's this weekend. 258 Whp and 205 ft-lbs of torque at 98 degrees air temp.

I've had both Jan & Hubie tune my car. Both have done well, but with Hubie's tune I've developed a lower rpm stall and a high rpm splatter. I did not have that with Jan's tune. Jan's was done on a dyno and Hubie's was a street tune. I think doing it on a dyno is the only way to tune.

Just asking some prudent questions, not trying to start anything...

I got results from my second tune session.
I'm still having low end bumpiness (small flat spots from 2K to 3500).
so I'm talking with Hubie about getting the 550 injectors.
Uh oh...I think Whipper finally caught what Waldo has.
On MOAT, I was having a lot of issues at the low end rpms (which is needed on tight turns), Whipper kept hitting dead spots before 2K but after 2K it would be fine.
Driving Whipper today, I painfully experienced lag trying to shoot off the line...it's like driving a wet dog.
Gotta get back to Hubie and figure out what changed. Driving behind BRG MINIs is dangerous, they kick up a lot of stuff. I blame Britt.
This is a most interesting, and probably unnecessary, thread. The original poster asked a question that was answered by many with the advice to talk to each of the tuners. IMO that was very wise advice. For people to be critical of one or the other tuners is not productive, for a variety of reasons.
Some folks might get into the counterproductive bashing game that has been so common on NAM. Also, the selected comments, i.e., those who choose to post, do not reflect a representative sample of the community of those who have had custom tunes. Not all happy or unhappy customers are willing to post comments, and many of those with tuning experience may not even read this forum. Furthermore, the types of equipment modifications need to be considered in tuning outcomes. The number of variables goes on and on.... ambient temperature, number of runs on the dyno (if any), type of dyno calibration, fuel, etc., etc.
Just my $0.03

lol everyone argues for a tune like they are getting paid for it/own the companies. I have a mynes tune, I love it. I don't have experience with jan but ive driven cars dynoed by him and they too are awesome. I have not seen any mini with close to the same parts truely be stronger than one or the other from either tuner.. so I say just talk to them and find out who is more convienent and who you like more personally?
also look into your future goals with the mini and really know what you want to do as both tuners sorta have their own style so you may want one or the other based on your intentions with the mini motor

I took it in to the dealer to have the tranny retuned (auto) and when they reflashed it they took out Jan's tune. I was going to AMVIV a week later so I had Hubie tune it there. At that time they were doing street tunes.

I noticed this post and as it came from the club I am a member of I thought I would look into it . Apparently there have been further developments as this was posted today .

So... most of you already know that after replacing my brakes and brake sensors, Whipper's bog down issues at low rpms have disappeared. However since Hubie replaced my low end mapping with my old JCW low end mapping, there was a slight dead spot around 4K rpms.
Last night I stopped by so that Hubie could reflash my ECU with the original tuning map. He and Jason worked their magic and Whipper is again powerful and zippy. I don't know what they did...but I swear my MINI makes less noise inside the cabin than before. Anyway, I am loving the tune and I am back to zipping off the line and accelerating smoothly.
Saw Corey (rdhots)last night, his CR MINI was getting upgraded injectors and a tune. It was fun to hang out with Hubie, Jason, Mike, and Corey.... time flew and before I knew it was past 8:30PM. Hubie, Jason, and Mike are all about MINIs...they enjoyed staying around to work on and talk about MINIs.
Thanks to Hubie and Jason for re-tuning Whipper.
Lex
I Pm'd Lex to make sure it was ok to quote him here and he said no problem and had this to add as well.
Randy, my low rpm issues were not because of Mynes tuning. It had to do with a faulty brake sensor. I am very happy with the quality of Hubie's and Jason's work. They spent over an hour with my MINI on the dyno for the initial tuning - I think Hubie ran my MINI 13-15 times on the dyno and he would have done more if there weren't other club members behind me waiting for the same tune. They were also great for follow-ups including trying to help me out when I had my low rpm issues - I went back to them 4 times to have my ecu tweaked, Hubie had no problems with my visits. All their additional work and support was at no additional cost. One thing I have to say is that I was more comfortable having Hubie tune my MINI since Hubie knows the ins and outs of the MINI; so if there were any mechanical issues, he could fix them at his shop instead of me having to go to another mechanic to get things done. At the tuning day, Hubie could hear the supercharger belt slipping on one of our club member's MINI and he was able to replace the belt and then tune. He also fixed a problem another member had - a pinched vacuum hose - they stayed until 11pm trying to find a replacement hose so that the member could drive home. It was one stop shopping at Hubie's. All of these examples just add to my confidence in the work and quality of service Hubie, Jason, and Mike provide. Now that Mike and Jason from Mynes Tuning are set up at the same facility, you have expertise from 3 people all in one place and also at the same time. It's hard to beat that.
Thanks,
Lex

If you want to kill two birds with one stone you can attend this event. The So Cal. Mini club is putting on a dyno day at Hubie's shop so you could come on by meet some local Mini owners and as well as see how Hubie / Mynes do business. There will be a wide variety of modded cars there so you can get some real world feedback as to what they think worked or didn't work for them . There will also be some dyno tests of a few cars that have been tuned locally which might prove to be interesting . All in all it should be a very entertaining day and could be a good opportunity to gain a ton of knowledge about your Mini.

When: 9 AM (until the last MINI is dyno'ed)
Costs: $55 for 3 pulls including air/fuel
Come find out what type of horse-power your MINI has.
ALL SCMM MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO STOP BY EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT PARTICIPATING IN THE DYNO
SCMM and ABF will be sponsoring lunch, so please stop on by and join in on the fun.
I am organizing a club dyno day with Hubie Fuh. It should be lots of fun... plenty of parking.... plenty of space to hang out. There will be some cool trophies and prizes awarded that day and in plenty of categories. We're going to try and make this as fun as possible as well as informative for everyone. This will be another opportunity to bring friends and family and enjoy the great camaraderie this club has to offer.
Food
The Club and ABF will kick in for some food and drinks. However, since we all love food...please feel free to bring some food or tasty beverage along and share with your fellow club members. This will be a very relaxed day, so bring your portable lawn chairs and lots of goodies, kick up your feet and stay awhile. Please post if you're interested in bringing something to share...the more the merrier.
There will also be a special announcement made by DR. FUH that many of you might be interested in (MINI related). Also, come and give support to the Fantasy Racing Team before they head off to Bonneville Salt Flats.
DYNO SIGNUP & INFORMATION
I will be compiling information to be used by each person who wishes to dyno their MINI. My hopes are that the information I collect can be used by everyone in the club, especially those who wish to mod their MINIs. The great thing is that there will be specialists available to review your results and talk to you about them and how you may be able to improve them. This will be free advice.
Please sign up if you would like to participate. The order in which your MINI will be dyno'ed will be in the same order in which you signed up on here. Please include your license plate and color of your MINI so it will be easier to find your MINI on the day.
PLEASE FILL IN THE INFORMATION IN THE ATTACHED FILE AND SEND IT BACK TO ME. Save a copy of the document to your computer and then please email me your copy of the file ~ email: lex@scmm.org. This will help later on when you discuss your results with the specialists as well as with other club members.

Anyone want to place a bet on what time they'll finish, I bet its going to be a looonnng day
but all in all, it was a good time =]
Dyno Day...
I believe there were 16 (?) Minis that made it to the dyno. I don't have the results, but I'm sure that someone will post them, perhaps on the SCMM website. I didn't dyno my car (some non-mechanical issues), but Hubie has data from a run done about 2 weeks ago...I'm quite pleased and the drivability of this very strong car is gratifying
.
It might be interesting to see these cars run on a different dyno (non-Mustang) in the LA area. While this might be comparing apples and oranges, the data could be potentially useful to the community and lay to rest a lot of the bickering that has been going on. Such an endeavor would not invalidate any data, but would show what could be expected for a given car on two different machines. I'd be willing to help out with the organization, etc.
Of note, there also was a 500+ hp Buick that was put on the rollers
I'm not sure if he completed the testing because the whole building shook during the run, and this may have dislodged the power cord from its socket
All in all, it was a fun day---lots of camaraderie, chit-chat, food, OMG's, good cheer, etc. Hubie, Jay, Mike and the SCMM organizers did an outstanding job and a real service for the Mini community
