I think im just going to try one of these big rubber sealing plugs that you torque down inside the T
. Turn the nut, and the rubber expands inside... should stay ok hopefully.

I thought about making my own, but for $37 shipped, I'd rather just buy what I know works and not spend $20 on something else. I ordered a red DOS Noisemaker Delete. I will see what gains in boost pressure I see. Might make my car run leaner too...I hope

Good choice; the red one gives back +2hp ... black ones only +1hp --
(Seriously: let us know what the boost diff really is -- I've wondered myself now for a while)

I plugged up my alta cold side port to the noise maker with a 1" O.D. pvc plug slid into a 1" I.D. pvc sleave I bought at Home Depot. I couldn't find a 1.25" plug. I pvc cemented the plug to the sleeve and plugged the hole on the cold side port. The plug is held on to the hose with the the hose clamp. Maybe cost me $1.50 for both pieces and I had pvc cement for sprinklers system. If I had 1" pipe laying around I could have probably done without the sleeve.

There shouldn't be much a boost difference. The noisemaker might act like a surge tank of sorts so eliminating it should increase responsiveness slightly. You might also get full boost earlier.

Oh, and don't use PVC cement. Sensor-safe RTV is the way to go.

Well i went and got one of these plugs... Says its the 1"-1 1'8" size. basically just hammered it in there like a big stopper... We'll see how it holds...havent really really gave it full boost yet.

Perhaps you can add a band clamp on the outside of the tube to secure it better. Just a thought.

I lost boost once when my hot boost tube blew off so I know what that is like. Loud bang and no power. Car is almost undriveable and will not hold rpm.

thats not a bad idea... i wasnt sure if that hard plastic tube would compress at all with an auxillary band clamp on it...

Also was curious what i would be expecting if it did blow... ill have to push it to the 12psi or so when im close to home lol... Then try it at 17 once i get my Chip back on.

I think even the hard tube will compress a little, or at least it will not expand under pressure with the clamp. Your solution does look a little under engineered to me.

I was on the track on full boost, about 4000 + rpm, (Lime Rock down hill) when the aftermarket hot boost tube blew off. Like I said in the earlier post, loud bang, loss of power, erratic idle, and then the engine would stop if I don't have my foot constantly on the accelerator. It would not run properly after that until you plug it back (or potentially plug the hole in your case).

$1.00 Noisemaker Delete!

This is what I used to plug the hole in the noisemaker opening, 1" PVC cap, it slides in very snug if you put the open end pointed out.

$1 at Home Depot and a decent helping of GOOP Automotive Sealant. Been on for 6 months and I checked it yesterday, its solid as a rock and not going anywhere.

Ordered the NM Engineering aircharge and discharge pipes. Is there a way or part that would plug the source (firewall)?

If you can find a small section of ~= 1" x1" x-section adhesive backed closed cell foam strip, you can put that in the hole left by the noisemaker snorkel.

The NM pipes get rid of the noisemaker. Its just that a noisemaker. It has no moving parts. I believe it functions because when you stop acceralting the leftover air gets sucked into the engine by the vacuum. The air in the noisemaker gets suck out so quickly it makes a whistle that imitates a blow off valve. It sounds cool but its not real

I understand. I was just wondering if there's a good way to plug the hole in the firewall?

For what it's worth, the "noisemaker" is so useless, that the 2011's don't even come equipped with it! Even MINI realized that it was useless.
