Anyone upgraded from the stock LSD

As per title, has anyone upgraded from the stock lsd to an obx / quaiffe / cusco?

What are your impressions? I need a new clutch, and dont really rate the stock item...

You left out the OS Giken LSD on the list. So far I'm VERY impressed with mine. Sure helps the car produce some good lap times. No clunking in tight turns (like you normally get with a clutch type diff). Significantly reduced on throttle understeer out of corners compared to the OE diff. So far very pleased.

Isn't the OEM diff a Quaife? I'm not sure, but that was my impression.

this and the Cusco are the best out there for the money.
OS Giken is probably the best but it's also the most expensive
You can't go wrong with either of these

the times don't lie

I'm looking at the OS Giken myself--Ian@Maitland Imports track times (records) speak for themselves. My tuner said he will eventually move to a OS Giken or Cusco from his Quaife and another person who's advice I trust was selecting a Cusco over the Quaife as well.

Can anyone speak for the pricing on the OS Giken?
I understand Da Quaife is around 1700
and the Cusco is about 1200 bucks.

OBX is usually a hit or miss. I would recommend rebuilding it if you were going to buy one.

My stock LSD is like an on off switch, once you put too much power down in a turn, it just plows off the road spinning both. I'd go Cusco or OS Giken, heard good things from multiple folks about both. I may do the upgrade around the first of the year, doesn't help you out now...

Well if your spinning both wheels then no LSD is really going to help much, there is just no grip available, meaning you need stickier tires or a cleaner road.

I ran Laguna Seca this weekend on runflat Kumhos (dumb...I know) with an OS Geiken LSD and I never had wheel spin coming out of a corner. I went from stock to the OS and have never run any of the others, but I'd give it a big thumbs-up!

BTW, I bought it from Ian.

I have a nice Quaife for sale. $850, works well, but I'm racing so i am going with the more expensive stuff to keep up with the Joneses.
It's listed in the 1st gen for sale adds with some other good stuff.

Low Grip and Quaife

After reading more than 40 Quaife/LSD/ATB threads I couldn't find answer to how does Quaife work on low grip surface. I am not worried about lifting inside wheel, but how about snow, ice and gravel surfaces?

1. How much more traction you get with Quaife on wet tarmac when launching out of low speed corner? It's design requires some traction on both wheels to transfer torque.

2. Does Quaife work on snow/ice/gravel covered roads? Does it help with traction or should I consider a clutch type LSD? And yes, I already have winter tires with studs for grip.

3. Can you still left-foot-brake on slippery/loose surface with LSD? Does it effect on handling?

Jan Lat62N

PS. Anyone making long 'short shifter' like those in WTCC, WRC and DTM cars?

To answer the first question I had no issues in my GTI with a quaife in snow or rain. And with traction control and chains nothing really stopped me. But I know the mini is a little different.

Second question what your looking for in those race cars is a sequential gearbox. I haven't heard of one for the mini(but I am still a noob) but I know M7 has something that's is close to one.
