Just thought I would put out a warning about using CO2. When CO2 plus water you can end up with a weak acid called Carbonic Acid which since their is a lot of aluminum on the Mini can attack it, just a FYI use at your own risk.

The other thing that I don't like about using CO2 in your engine bay is that the air intake is really close to the intercooler and if any of the CO2 gets into your intake, it acts as a fire extinguisher and you lose power.

I believe there are a few old threads (back from 2004-2005) on here with people complaining how their CO2 sprayer would leak into their intake when they were spraying...

Thanks for that helpful bit of info john and iceman. I will more than likely end up going the meth route.

That's why I used nitrous.

Hi *****,

You sure it was me? I haven't been out in the evenings with it in a month or two. I might, depends on how soon I receive my oil cooler.

I was there during the day at the offices across the road for a few meetings. That could have been me then, yes.

Here is that data. Nothing to detailed but it should help give an idea of what a little water can do.
  • Time----IAT-----EXT temp
  • 7:30----89------75---------(just after getting off the highway)
  • 8:30----132-----75---------(after sitting at tech inspection)
  • 10:15---128-----76---------(warm up period before first run to bring oil to temp)
  • 10:35---118-----77---------(temp about 2 minutes after a spray down)
  • 10:41---112-----77---------(temp just after the first run*)
  • xxxxxx---123----77----------(not sure when exactly this was but it is in the right spot)
  • 1:13----110-----80---------(after work assignment, sprayed down while motor running)
  • 3:19----150-----82-------(during fun runs with no spray down, by the time I staged it was 160 and you really feel the heat soak. Its worth noting there were 3 run between this and the previous point where the engine never shut off for more than 5 minutes. I never saw the temp creep over 130 so long as I kept water on it)
*It got cooler during after the run because as the air flowed over the water sitting on the IC during the run the evaporative cooling effect was increased. While these may not be the actual temps seen right where the air enter the engine, they were all measured from the same position (t-map) so the delta is good. As a cheap way to keep your IATs down a good bit, it is hard to beat keeping some water on the IC it seems.
