With a BPV, Intake, and not much else, my boost gauge consistently reads between 11 and 12

Depends on the year.

07's had different software and made much higher boost. 08's-09's make less. See the boost pressure survey thread on the Gen 2 Drivetrain forum...

I have an 04 with alta intake and magnaflow exhaust ( pulley and bpv are not installed yet) and it reads 9psi peak and 7psi on highway. could there be boost leak or something?

Yeah, almost without a doubt. I would start by installing the BPV. If yours isnt functioning right, it may cause a failure in building boost. If that doesn't do the trick (but I'd bet money it does), check the vacuum lines where you spliced in the boost gauge then the rest of the vac system because you're apparently hemorrhaging boost somewhere.

Only 10psi stock? That's lower than I would have guessed.

Also for reference: 15% pulley, cai, cat-back, and rmw tune = 15-16 psi for me.

I made 10 psi stock. 15% pulley went up to 15-16 psi. All on an '02 S.

I get 16 psi at WOT. That's with a 15% s/c pulley, 2% oversized crank pulley, DT BPV, and intake. Check where the line comes into the gauge. I had problems where my line cracked right there one time.

ipod touch?? is there some new app thats supposed to give you psi? I hope to get to 17 once my bpv is installed.

and for what its worth...EVERY forced induction car should have a real boost gauge installed. its very useful and really helps you troubleshoot.

My ipod touch reading Tommy's boost using REV. for the iphone/touch via the OBD-II with a PLX wifi link. I had it data logging boost for his power run.

Basically a set of WOT runs in about a 1/3 - 1/2 of a mile.

Rev. is only reporting what is coming off the OBD. If you folks think with his mods he should be getting more, then he has a leak or other problem.

But it sure felt good on the butt-dyno.

Don

Keep in miind that pressure will decrease as you in improve flow. Cars with big valve heads and better flowing exhaust will actually read lower.

I'm new to the New Mini. I recently hook up a boost gauge, and I am only seeing like 7 psi max? normal driving is about 5 psi? Why are my numbers so low compare to everyone else?

Just read the earlier posts and you'll find your answer as far as what could be wrong, I actually had a small kink in my line giving me a low reading. As far as the BPV issue, 90% of the time this will be the cause if it's still the factory unit ( esp. in pre '05 cars) it usually has to do with butterfly alignment. For the cost of one of the DT/BPV's you might as well just just start there and take it out of the picture.

your sig says you are in Denver. Altitude can make a major difference in boost also. You need to find another Mini so you can compare apples to apples. What boost I made at not even 100 feet of elevation will be considerably different than 5000 or whatever.

Just bumping this old thread because it is forever relevant AND I just replaced my turbo (worn housing where the wastegate actuator goes through) and most of the piping (removed noisemaker and resonator) at 125,500mi on my '08 S Clubman. Using my bluetooth ODB reader, I'm getting 35-37 inHg at full boost which equates to just over 17psi. I did NOT upgrade my turbo. Just replaced it with a like sized K03, but I DID replace my wastegate actuator vacuum line with a silicone one as well.

Just to chime in.......the stock S I've driven made around 10psi according to the aftermarket boost gauge. My 03' JCW made 12psi with the JCW SC pulley. It now makes around 16psi with the 17% pulley I installed.
