I was interested to see what it looked like so I found the site if anyone else wants the link:
http://www.mini-madness.com/madness-mini-cooper-s-high-flow-intake-manifold.aspx

The picture only shows the view from the individual runner side. To do it yourself you would need a tool with a long reach to port it all the way back to the main common manifold section as I guess they must have done.

I wonder if extrude-hone is available and how much it would cost in comparison.

Without having a flow bench to match port flows and knowing what the optimum flow rates should be, any DIY efforts to P&P a head or intake will likely do more damage than good...

It is easy to screw something up but I don't agree with the statement "any DIY efforts... will likely do more damage than good". If someone has their cylinder head off they could smooth all the "as cast" surfaces of the airflow areas without fear of damage.

My comment on the manifold in question was that it would be difficult to reach all the way through the runner to do it yourself.

It's hard to say what is worth $400. The performance parts for this car seem expensive compared to some so in the grand scheme of things maybe $400 isn't that much. To put it in perspective Extrude hone may be a good benchmark.

Last I knew, which I admit was some time ago, Extrude hone provided quotes for doing manifolds and heads. It would be interesting to see how much they charge for Mini parts and if they have ever done one.

I know this is a very old post but I was just wondering if this would be a good by with the mods I have or would my money be better spent on something else. My mods are in the signature. Thank you

it reduces the fanning friction factor in the runners which attributes to a lot of line losses.

It will not help as much as say a big valve head, or a cam, or a different blower, but it does reduce a lot of restrictions.

You could do just as well with fabricating a new intake manifold, but that would cost more.

I know WMW uses an abrasive slurry that gets pumped through when they do theirs (sends it outside), which by his description sounded like a type of extrude honing process.

as to the actual hp #'s you would get from this, it just depends on your mods, but do not expect anything crazy for a standard modified car (one that has not gone absolutely nuts and it is the main restriction from moving forward, there is a lot of other things to address first before you get to the roughness of the inside profile of your manifold)

if you look at thumper's page, after cam, bvh, pulley, intake, header and exhuast. this is the last piece of the puzzle.

after all those can the intake manifold be ported and polished since it becomes the bottleneck
